Tobruk Diorama
Posted by Captain Spalding on Sunday, May 10, 2015 8:23 AM

Hello all. So this is my first ever attempt at a diorama. This one is based on a local partially buried Tobruk in Jersey. It's in 1/35 scale using a Drakka Tobruk and masterbox figure. The base was an old picture frame and the sides built from wood. The Tobruk was created from a modified Plaster cast Tobruk. The terrain is built up from polystyrene. The barbed wire was handmade using electrical wiring. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Pete

Very nice work! The bunker, landscape, figure- everything looks just right.

I like the diorama just fine, Pete, but my curiosity has the better of me - what's the deal with the cloud in the upper left corner of the first image?

Really really nice. Nice to see a deep dio with some real thought put into the setting.

Figure is very well done.

That looks like a castle or a lighthouse on an islet?

Jersey, now there's a place I would like to go, never been.

Needs more cow turds...

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks for the great feedback!

Knight - sadly not a cloud just the contrast on my image from the sea making it look so.

Morrison - haha I'll see what I can do on the cow pat front!! But yeah you're spot on. It's a local landmark. Tower built on a rocky outcrop in bay. Some great pics here www.tracesofwarjersey.com/.../index.html .

Jerseys definitely a great place to go if you like some well preserved ww2 fortifications!

Looks great, really well proportioned scene and detailed.

I have ONE suggestion, just for an extra touch of 'real feel'.. maybe use a little earth/dust pigment brushed into the edges of the concrete to soften the very hard contrast with the grey and the rest of the scene?
