Reviving an old thread - here's a great website I found.  European guy who has a wonderful English-language blog describing builds and how-tos on his very detailed dioramas, many of which feature explosions and fires.  Short answer: cotton, cellophane, and LEDs.

It's timely to revive this thread.  Just as some folks noted back in 2015, there is currently a post circulating Facebook of the Hellcat that crash-landed on the Lexington (CV-16), with an explosion of spilled aviation fuel.  The guy who built it did a great job depicting the fire in his diorama.  If I can find the post again, I'll post it back here to share with those who haven't seen it.

OK, the diorama I'm talking about is posted in the Facebook group, "The Scale Armory and Hangar".  This is the URL to the page:

I'm able to click the link and get to the page.

But if you can't follow the link, and you're a Facebook user, search for that group, and you can see the photos.
