1/24 is the same as 1/2" = 1'-0" scale. so, to scale, an 8 x 8 garage door is 4" x 4". A 10' tall door is 5" tall. A service station garage ceiling is about 12' tall, so that's 12/2 or 6". We can derive some numbers, too. 1/4" = 6"; 1/8" = 3" 1/16" = 1.5" and 1/32" = 3/4". To use round numbers, .040" ≈ 1" You could use 3/8" stock to represent 8" CMU walls. You could be forgiven for modeling 8x16x8 concrete block as 9x18x9, or 3/8" x 3/4" x 3/8"--the difference will be a portion of a 32nd of an inch. Unless you want to cut .318 x ..636 .318" blocks and fit them up with 1/64" (3/8" at scale ) mortar joints.
