If you mix it too wet, it can take a long time to dry out.

If you lay it on too thin on your base, it can shrink and curl at the edges.  One way to avoid this is to mix white glue into the mix.

I remember a tip from an old forum hand--maybe it was Hans von Hammer?--that he used an old food processor to mix his Celluclay, to get a good, thorough mix.  I have not tried that, myself, but I can't see that it would hurt.

You can mix paint (eg, liquid, powder) into the mixture and tint it.  For example, add earth-colored paint to the mix.  This saves having to lay down a "ground" color once the mixture has set.

Those are the things that come to my mind, off the top of my head.  Hope that helps!

My experiance is that it will shrink how ever thin or thick it is. The wetter it is the more it will shrink, so use as little water as possable. Even with white glue it shrinks, so mix a bit more than you need. Leave the un used stuff some where col, it will stay usable for days, you can use this to fill in the edges if they shrink.

Adding paint to the mix is a lot easier than trying to paint it. If you want to put track marks in it, leave it to dry for a day or so first, but don't let it get to hard.
