Bedouin vignette
Posted by Griffin25 on Sunday, November 27, 2016 5:45 PM

So I've been working on this Bedouin of the Sinai vignette and I am starting to think the base is too big. I'm trying to fill it in to balance it out. My idea was to have a little "insurgent" lunch break area that has been disrupted by a modern Bedouin fighter on a camel with a HK G3 rifle. There's too much room I think and I don't know what to do. It would be a perfect base for a small vehicle maybe I should just make a new one? I don't want to put a body. I might put a flag on the ground.

Any ideas or comments welcome. I'm heming and hawing.

Another figure would round out the scene.

Here are some ideas, for what they're worth:

A standing figure observing the discarded materials or the bird.

A fallen fighter lying where he fought.

A resting fighter using the tree for shade.

A fighter conversing with his comrad on camelback.

I'm just throwing them out there.

Some good ideas there. If I may add just some footprints in front of the camel might help to fill in an empty place there. And is there any way to turn the rider's head toward the lunch scene? It does help to 'tie things together' to have people looking at each other.

Yep you're right. It needs another figure to balance it out. I'll have to figure it out. I didn't want to except reality. The rate I work that adds another 6 months to the project Crying Haha. Footprints and a blood trail are a good idea too, Gamera. I appreciate the input. Thank you.

I'm going to put a body, to heck with it. Just ordered it. Also turn the camel the proper direction. I didn't even think of that. Thanks!

I think that would do nicely.

It's got the basics for developing a nice little scene. Good luck and I hope it works for you.

Cheers

Your a true gentleman, you take these critiques and immediately correct them.  I applaud you sir.  Most modelers would come up with excuses and not get things done.

Your diorama in my humble unlearned opinion is first rate.  It is just fantastic.  I'll be following!

Thanks guys. I wasn't planning on doing a wip but since a couple people are interested, what the heck. I'm working on the camel now. It's my first hooved animal. I've painted a cat, a rat and a bird but never a large animal. I used my airbrush to appy the darker base coat, large area highlights and slight wash of dark umber. I'm hand painting the eyes, small highlights, and shadows. I think it's coming out ok.

I think the camel is complete. For some reason it looks a little shiny in the photo. It isn't. I take all my photos with my phone so I think that has something to do with it.Now I have 2 figures to do and I'll be done. Maybe a month. Lol.

Looks good, I've painted horses and wish they looked as good as your camel. Yes
