I ahve built several dollhouses over the years for others. Hobbly Lobby or Michael's is a good start and use the coupons , also check craiglist many people buy them and never complete them. I usually use a kit as a starting point then add or modify from there. Its basically just woodworking until you get to interior.

Another option , depending how large you want it to be is to look at model railroad structures. They are in wood or styrene and easy to modify. 

One thing you could try is to see if you have one of the MIT based builder labs in a local library or school.  You may be able to get access to a laser cutter or CNC router that could create the pieces for you.  They all use the same software which is free to download and simple to use.  I know there are may of these labs all over, you would just need to find one.  Good luck and please share the results.

Have you tried HobbyLobby? Mine has a pretty good doll house section, so naturally i would assume they all do. Not sure on pricing as i have never really looked, I just pass by there on the way to the models.

One option for you would be to invest some time instead of money. You could draw the parts yourself and have them laser-cut. I once had some laser-cut parts cut for me at a small company working in advertising - they were making nameplates, stamps and display stands. They also had a laser cutting machine that accepted CorelDRAW files and that worked for me just fine. I bet you could also find a similar company on the net. I had saw those. I was wondering if anyone had experience scratch building dollhouse type structures and where one might find the materials. Those parts and kit are EXPENSIVE! Sorry if i was vague in the first post:)
