Good to know it.
armornut The gear you see in the middle of the pumpkin is the axles proper. The sun gear sets vertically between them. When the planetary,( sun), is taken out and the axle retaining clips are removed they are free to migrate to the center. Not much different than a car only heavier.

Now that explanation sounds very cosmic. :)
Gamera Oh wow, with a different angle / a little photo manipulation etc I'd swear this were the real thing!

I can smell the grease and oil.
Yep! So could I. :)
TomZ This is AWESOME! I wish I could do work like that. What are the two rods visible within the pumpkin? The car axles I am familiar with don't have those.

Not sure but here is the photo that inspired me. BTW, it is a truck axle. So I guess, it is different for cars:

keavdog Great idea. Nicely done and I love the details like the uneven wear on the tire. Alignment next?

That would be probably next on the list of things to do.
Thanks,

goldhammer Well done.....I can feel the grease under my fingernails. Only thing missing is the carrier with the ring and pinion, but I know those are in the shop getting the backlash set

Much appreciated. Glad you approve.
This is another small and quick vignette I made in-between my current major truck build. Yes, I have been doing quite a lot of them lately. I wanted something to take with me to the GGG exhibition in Sweden, in two weeks time. So I came up with this after seeing a pic on the net. I used parts, which I modified to be able to get the open rear axle effect I wanted. I have lots of 1/24 parts left over from older builds, which I’ve discarded over the years. Hope you all like it.
