This build was an experiment I've want to try for years: a P-51H in a hypothetical ETO scheme with D-Day stripes.
Of course in fact,the P-51H only saw service after the war, but this build represents a hypothetical late war scenario with Allied air superiority still very much in question. Undoubtably the "H" would have seen service, as it was by far the most superior of the Mustang series and practically the whole 8th Air Force was already trained to fly mustangs. I can imagine P-51Hs escorting B-29s to Germany, flying at some ridiculously high altitude and tangling it up with ME-262s and Ta-152s.
The 1/48 kit was resin, made by VP_Canada (Victoria Products). I have no idea how old it is; i won it on ebay a couple years ago. The general shape of the kit is about right, but it was a difficult build that required alot of carving and sculpting. Big seams, etc. But I've always kinda enjoyed that part of building. Paint is Tamiya acrylic, promodeller wash, oil weathering.
This build was completed for the Fantasy Fliers WWII group build. I enjoyed finding the answer to my question about how the P-51H would look in green. I think she looks pretty sweet!
