B5N2 Paint help
Posted by Brokenarrow on Sunday, January 25, 2015 9:38 PM
could use some help on paint for a B5N2 Japanese Kate Bomber. This one is armed with the 850lb bomb not the torpedo, I haven't received that one from Amazon yet. I have no preference as far as paint companies are concerned, I paint with a brush not an airbrush. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

AK Interactive offers a WWII IJN Aircraft set that includes couple shades of exterior greens and greys as well as interior greens and the engine cowl black.  I have only used one of the exterior greys and interior greens thus far but it looks good to me.  I am no expert on Japanese colors and I have not seen any discussion in favor or against the AK Interactive colors on any of the various forums.

I use Tamiya paints.  For the B5N2 Kate:  Upper XF-70 Dark Green, lower either silver or XF-76 Grey Green.  Interior can be XF-71 Cockpit Green.  I add some XF-49 Khaki to brown this up, especially for Nakajima subjects.  Since you don't airbrush, you could also check out Tamiya "AS" spray can line that makes these colors, at least the top green...

Testors Model Master also has the IJN Green and IJN Gray in their paint lines. Enamels for sure, and I am pretty sure in their Acrylic line as well. Model Master usually brush paints far better than Tamiya paints...

Thank you all. Your help is MOST welcome. My grandfather was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and recently passed away. I'm trying to recreate Battleship Row in my basement. The Japanese planes, especially the colors of that day seem to be the most difficult to get ahold of and recreate.
