Metal Earth build of a F4U, P-51, and Avro Lancaster "A Fathers Day Gift"!

To my fellow forum members,

My daughter went on a vacation to North Carolina from Father's Day that ended just yesterday. Isn't that nice, a whole week vacation by the beach. I did tell her to watch out for sharks. LOL! She left with her boyfriends family to drive there, I think it's like a 12 hour drive?

Anyway, I was more than happy with my Father's Day gifts of the A-10, Zero, and the Visible B-17. So to my surprise when she came home yesterday, I was asked to close my eyes and lo and behold, I was presented these three kits from Brett (My daughters boyfriend) and Allana.

At first, I thought it was a toy! Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a model kit made entirely of photo etch, a Corsair (My favorite), Mustang (My second favorite), and a Lancaster bomber. My first instinct told me to open the corsair, OMG, OMG!

First off, at least the photo etch is made of a steel material instead of brass like the Eduard PE. Second, there's some painting on the PE to highlight like in the Corsair build for instance, wings, cockpit, ensignia, and demarcation lines, the last of which is very crucial to this build. I really feel these kits are for advanced builders. It looks like trying to assemble a Breitling watch! I also made a mental note, bend it the wrong way and you're screwed. If you try bending it back, it'll break off, how do I know even before I build these intricate aircrafts? I have vast experience and expertise with that. LOL!

Since I have three plastic kits to build, I'll just build one PE prior to my next plastic kit aircraft and so on. I hope I can succeed in this endeavor, I would hate to make an error on a PE kit. At the very least, I can rely on CA. The heading on this FSM forum has a section under the title of space craft. In there there is a thread of a Earth Metal kit of a lunar landing craft. Check it out, it's amazing, this builder even has a custom stand that has LED colored lights to enhance the landing craft. Until till I'm done with my A-10, I'll diligently and very carefully start on the PE Corsair. I want to thank all FSM forum members in of supporting my projects and giving me the inspiration in moving forward in each and every build, not to mention the threads of forum members builds of which I am so inspired by.

Correction, these PE sets are not painted in the traditional sense but all markings are laser scribed into the PE kits.

I have never seen these. So you can imagine my shock to see a entire kit made up of PE. WOW! I just hope I can do justice to these three PE builds. Thank you Brandon for always being there!

They have them at all my local craft and book stores. They have: ships, tanks, aircraft, farm equipment, bugs, cars, space ships, you name it. They go together extremely easy. No soldering or anything.

These Metal Earth items come in a dizzying array of subjects. They are very fun and addictive from what I here. LOL, that's all I need, another hobby.

Heh your not gonna believe this Toshi but I have built some of these too. I did the P-51 and it was pretty easy! I will post a pic when I get home tonight.

I have a set of the star wars one awaiting my attention. Darth Vaders Tie fighter, and an AT AT.

Your gonna need some smooth jawed needle nose pliers!

Uhhh whats a bug? Well I know what a bug is but not the tool you mention.

I just looked at Metal Earth's rendition of the Falcon and it looks awesome!

To my fellow forum members,

Last night, my daughter Allana, and Brett, my daughters boy friend stopped by and slept over. Since I've completed my A-10, I figured I'll work on the Meta Earth Corsair. It was Brett that was one of the individuals which of whom, pointed me in the direction of model building, I asked if he would join me.

Not only did he join me, he tackled the P-51 by himself. This made me very frustrated. Ha, Ha! I'll tell you why. Upon step one of my Corsair build, I broke two pieces off, so I went straight to the CA. By the time I put the wings on (By the way, my frustration came from Brett in a joking way. Who am I kidding, here I am, building model kits and yet unable to put together such a simple project. He completed the P-51 perfectly with no CA) Brett had completed the P-51. I told him he must cease and desists going out with my daughter! LOL!

On the other hand! My build was entirely put together with a gallon of CA! Nothing fit, everything started to break off and did I mention that the Corsair was put together with CA? We started our builds at 10:15pm, by 11:00pm, he was done. I completed my Corsair at 1:30am! Did I mention that the Corsair was put together with CA? HA, HA!

Overall, we all had fun and laughed at my struggling of my Metal Earth. I called my build Mental Earth, LOL! My daughter and Mrs. Toshi watched with interest, for the first time, I felt now and understood that even model kit building can bring together a families love for each other. All this time, I thought model kit builds were a solo project. What's cool about about this is that it can be a solo project or a family project. I just realized that by sharing all of this on this forum has now made this and has always been a FSM family project.

Please be safe and enjoy your 4th of July holiday. I will start on the Metal Earth Lancaster, and pre-prep the Tamiya Zero. Until my next thread, please enjoy my CA build below, HA, HA!

Yes, that's just the modeler in me. When assembling the Metal Earth, things that attach to each other are done so with two little clips, hence they seem too loose for my liking. I pretty much used CA on the entire build. Thank you for spending time with me on this thread. Have a wonderful ID4!
