Trumpeter TBF-1C Avenger WIP
Posted by Toshi on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 4:48 PM

Here's another one, to my fellow forum members, I had to stop building my B-17 Flying Fortress earlier this week in which I ran out of some key paints like zinc chromate yellow and a few other much needed items to restock my inventory. So I've noticed every other member has a stash/stored model kit in their collection. I find this extremely interesting. Hence my pre-purchase of the Trumpeter Avenger model kit.

I thought this model kit would be much smaller although it's a 1:32 it feels like it's in the single digit range. WOW! The kit has a total of 392 gray parts, 31 clear parts, 10 black vinyl parts, 3 rubber tires, and finally 2 frets for the exterior and the interior of the aforementioned aircraft, the TBF-1C Avenger. Let's not exclude the 28 pages of the assembly manual with 59 steps! The box alone was a generous 6" tall and 18" long. It's somewhat of a monstrosity! At least in my eyes, and it starts with the assembling of the engine first. The kit is huge with detail. As always, I will photograph each step one at a time. Thank you, Toshi

no one ever accused Trumpeter of skimping on parts count. Looks like a good build. I hear it's a great kit.

I can see your toes. LOL.

Most of the members have more than their share of stashes. I wont be surprised if most too have more kits than they could possibly build in a lifetime. But thats part of the fun.  Hahaha.

Good luck on this build!

I forgot to crop the photo.  LOL!

Yes, I noticed that many members has extra models waiting to get built, whereas I just do it kit by kit.  Different strokes for different folks.  Thanks Allan for the read and reply!

P.S.  Besides my dad, you're the first Allan that spells your name with two LL,s.  I'm a Junior so I too spell my name Allan.  Through all my travels I've not met one Allan that spells their name like you and I.

Man, nice kit ,Toshi !

I'll br following this one for sure since I have an Accurate Miniatures !/48 scale  in the stash.  I was going to start my TBF-1C before the B-26 but the box is loaded with a high parts count and a bunch of am stuff, so it was rather intimidating to me.  Since I started messing with the simple Monogram B-26's AM parts, I feel better about the TBF now though and I think I am ready to jump into building it.  Your TBF will be a good learning tool for me.

Whoa yeah! I've built the 1/48th Accurate Miniatures kit and it's friggin' huge. In 1/32nd it would have to be gigantic. I've seen two of the actual planes in museums-  hard to imagine something that big could ever land on a carrier!

This is a real monster. I've got on in the stash. It's supposed to be one of Trumpeter's best, but it's almost a direct copy of the AM kit, so that's no surprising. Im wathcing

Built one in 9th grade. Very few shape errors; overall a great kit.  Definitely not one of Tamiyas fab 4, but great none the less.

If you look closely at the schematic build sheet you will notice the paint codes, guess what, there are no paint codes offered at all.  Last night I googled the paint codes and found them, where else?  Here on the FSM forum dated from 2005, this kit debut was 2004.  There are a total of sixteen pages, WOW!

I worked on this engine for most of the day.  It's probably not correct as far as wiring goes but this is the first time I did anything close to this.  In reality, this is my first ever scratch build wires I've done.

I looked at a lot of photos and this is as close to what I can conceive.  Thank you for your time forum members.
