Funny John! It's credit given for credit deserved! If I've revved you up, all is good. I'm even somewhat enthused in that I too can post some old things that may have never seen the light of day again. All fun. Photography is a good medium to show and express things we've seen and done. I really like viewing photography in that it's recordings of things seen by others that I may have missed in life. Getting philosophical here, but it's all true that we get to see the world in the eyes of others. Get after it I say!

Osh Kosh 2015 Heritage Flight Thought it was cool to have a P-38
Lotsa fire breathing equipment from busses to cannons (love that cannon shot!) I thought I'd better throw one in to stay competitive. It shows one of the problems of big telephotos at long distances where ground heating is distorting the image. The lens is sharp and in focus but just too much air turbulance. No problem when shooting upwards.
Max, Actually the car/plane picture is really cool, and I like the way the background is blurred out. The cannon shot was a bit of luck. I had been watching the cannons fire for some time and finally decided to see if I could catch a shot. I had never noticed the flames until I checked the camera and there in the middle was the shot above. Love the auto-fire feature that can catch things even your eye can miss.

Much of my work in the past was Photojournalism where you covered an event by telling a story. I still try to shoot more than one aspect of a subject and here's an example while at an airshow. I picked several subjects that day the F-18 demo for one. I envisioned a short article or story about what happens at an air show with this subject. The performance demo is what you're there to see but I wanted to tie the human aspect in showing someone really flies this thing and it has support and such. I thought that 3-5 final pictures would be needed. Three shots are the performing aircraft where two more show the ground crew and pilot. Three shots would cover the story but I had several possibilities for the performance part and added a couple. Here's the results.

I totally forgot that Stewart was switching from C-5s to C-17s. I bet the maintenance troops are somewhat happier about the switch.

I just waved at him and he waved back! Somewhere I have a B-17 pilot waving at me. When you're looking through a camera and waving they know that will be a good picture and they always wave back! Notice he's smiling also.
On the taxi shot there's the heated air simmering that we like and check his hand on the windshield.

"I just waved at him and he waved back!" Thats awesome Max. Nice job.... The images that you took give a person the sence that you were given personal access to the pilot and plane. Excellent! You are a master of illusion.
Comrade Max. Yeah... that is an awesome shot of the Mig. Look at the heat distortion... Then there is the human element of the two people looking back at it, and the Mig looks poised to kick some serious BEEP. Very cool!
Every time I look at the Mig-25 picture, I can't help from wondering how many cubic feet/second of air is going through those monster intakes at near mach 3. Yikes!

Here's my post for the day. Be patient I've almost (but not quite) ran out of pictures.LOL.
I was armed and ready on this P-51 pass and here's the best two. I usually try to pick just one but here's two examples. The first one has the better angle but the second one shows more detail. Opinions? 1 or 2?
#2 Mustang.
Max, I vote for #1, and I agree, like the angle better.

Thanks Gang, maybe with some post processing on #1 like lightening up the shadows would make the choice a little easier. #2 shows more detail and he has moved to a bluer part of the sky. Lotsa factors. BTW, I hardly ever let the camera overshoot with a hi-speed burst. These are single shots with the photographer picking the moments rather than the camera. Not that this is a good idea, but it does add disipline to photography. If this was a real paid job I probably would have used the burst mode to help insure success. I'm also shooting a RAW file at the same time as the JPEG with quite a bit more data. Even with pro cameras big hi-res bursts can fill the buffer and shut the camera down until the info is loaded on the card. I also use hi-write speed cards for that reason. Just a little added info for those interested.
I like #1...just for the "pose".
I like #1 but the lighting is unfortunate. I raised the color temperature slightly and lightened the shadows and highlights. Better or worse?

Max, I think I like the original better. I am having trouble putting it into words, but the shadow adds authenticity, maybe, it looks more real? The lightened shadow looks more posed(?) or something like that. Just my 2 cents.
