It is a good kit, despite its age.  I remember when it came out and have built several and still have some waiting.

It was always one of my favorite WWII aircraft.

If your decals turn out to be ruined, I have some extra decals that would work, either from the kit or some after market.

That kit was really state o' the art back in 1969.  It's still a really good kit.  I built this one about 20 years ago.

That's a great build you're doing of one of the most unique aircraft from WWII.  It also happens to be one of my favorites!  I'll definately be following along this thread, this will be fun!

Looking great.... You'll find that those white box Monogram kits have the nicest parts, primarily because the molds were new then. 40 years of use has taken its toll, especially in the P-40 and P-61. I have an original 1974 release P-61 which is just stunning in surface detail.

 

Dog is right. After a while the molds start to have issues. I built the 1/48 Monogram Voodoo and compared it to a recent Revell relese I got at HL and you could see the difference in some parts not fitting as good as the original Monogram issue. None the less, these kits have some real nice molded details and will look great once completed.

I don't know how many times I have built this kit. It is one of my favorites from when I was growing up. You are doing a great job on your Cobra.

Earlier this year I completed a 4-kit build of Airacobras, one of which was the old Monogram kit (a blue box release from the year of my birth that I acquired on eBay). The Monogram kit remains one of their best and most detailed, and it does stand up well to the others I built alongside it, an Accurate Miniatures and an Eduardo, which itself was simply the Accurate Miniatures mold spruced up with their Profipack detail sets.

One of my favorite kits!  One thing this kit has that the newer Airacobra kits lack is a cannon that doesn't spin with the prop.  Have fun!

Well, here she is. It's too clean, but I'm ok with it. I may go back and dirty it up later. The pictures make the olive drab look too green. I really enjoyed the build.

Beautiful finish! Not often that anybody does anything of an Aleutian subject. Quite a forgotten theater of war.

Nice job on a unique aircraft. Also, I build clean ones too, no need to apologize. They were all clean at one point in their life. Keep up the good work!

Excellent!!!  I too have high praise for these Monogram kits. and I have the P-39 in a bag kit and a blue box (Confederate Airforce I think) that my wife found at a garage sale along with the Monogram Avenger for 2 buck a piece.

You made er look good and I wouldn't worry about beating it up too much, I think it looks good the way she sits!

Really nice work on this bird.  The decals look good, especially the roundels.

Nicely done.  I, too, have an affinity for the P-39.  I just think it looks sleek, like a small sports car.

   I think you've shown that even OOB after all this time and the results are great . The early Monogram Birds have all come to life in my hands and I still have most of the later " Century Series " in stash, in doubles .

 Now , the building of the B-17 , P-61 , P40 and some others were a real pleasure back then . I even have to include the B-25 and B-29 in here . The later ones ? well the age of the molds is showing .  T.B.

I built the CAF boxing of this kit a few years back in Soviet markings and it lookd real nice (IMHO) ;)

I just replaced the kit seat and exhaust stacks with some resin AM stuff on mine...

Even after all these years, she is still a beauty of a kit with lots of potential...

Right... Unless you get an Eduard Weekend Edition, you'll be paying twice as much. And careful with Hasegawa- they actually boxed this kit under their own label before the molded their own...
