4 kits purchased at once from Hobby Town USA in Mentor Ohio
Posted by Toshi on Sunday, August 28, 2016 12:45 AM

As for the four kits depicted below of which is my first four stash kits, I'd like the opportunity to tell everyone about the importance of each kit as it was methodically picked specifically for a purpose!

(Tamiya 1/48 Vought F4U-1A Corsair) This will be Corsair number seven.  Why did I purchase another Corsair again especially after I built six (Corsair #1 Testors 1/72, #2 Tamiya 1/32, #3 Revell 1/48, #4 Tamiya 1/32, #5 Academy 1/72, and #6 Testors 1/72) Corsairs already.  First off it's a Tamiya!  You know we all have made a Tamiya kit at some time or another.  Second, I wanted to see the difference with the detailing between the Tamiya 1/32 and the 1/48.  Third and finally, as you all know by now, it's my favorite number one aircraft of all time!

(Italeri 1/48 Arado Ar 196 A) My fourth seaplane being the Arado and having built in the past a Martin, Kingfisher, and a Catalina, will be fun and interesting.  I always wanted to build a Revell of Germany Arado, but I've never built a kit from Italeri.  So for me, this became an obvious choice.  It's also labeled as "Brand New Tooling" and has the markings not only for a obvious Luftwaffe aircraft but you can build a Japanese or an Italian Arado.  Pretty cool but I think I'll stick with the Luftwaffe version, although the Japanese markings looked cool on the Arado but so did the Italian version.  Decisions decisions.  LOL!

(Hasegawa 1/72 Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden (Jack) Type 21) I bought this kit for several reasons, it was 50% off and it's a Hasegawa.  Like the Italeri kit, I've never made a Hasegawa kit so this will be interesting.  Another reason is that this is a two for one kit, there are two Raidens to build from the 302nd Flying Group and has markings for both groups from the 302 Group.  I think it's pretty cool to have the opportunity two build the same kit twice.

(Tamiya 1/35 Kampfpanzer Leopard) Finally a tank!  I know, I know it's not an aircraft but I needed to purchase this kit for one reason and one reason only!  A few months ago, actually to put it correctly, it was during the 2015 winter season.  Wow, how time flies, don't we all say and know that!  LOL!  I purchased from Hobby Lobby a AFV Weathering Kit by Vallejo #78.406.  It's a weathering kit for green military armour vehicles.  Why did I buy it?  Like the chicken that crossed the road, because it was there!  LOL!

The weathering kit comes with a total of 7 acrylic colors for $14.99 plus you need to apply the 40% ubiquitous Hobby Lobby discount.  You've got to love that!  It came in at approximately eight or nine bucks.  Not bad for my first weathering kit experiment.  If I mess it up, it's not like I spent a ton of money on it.  The kit comes with three model colors 822, 985, and 976.  Two model washes 514 and 512.  Finally it has a pigment binder 233 and a pigment color powder 104.  What I want most importantly on this build is for the guys in the armour thread to give me some kind of direction and tips on how I'm doing.  Everyone on this forum are A+ members so this will not be an issue.

Last but not least, I'm looking to have a ton of fun building, in some cases for the first time kits that I specifically bought with Mrs. Toshi for reasons described above.  I hope I get as many reads and replies as possible for my builds so that I can continue to learn from you all plus it'll be fun for all of us!  There is another thread with this same information repeated since it's has such an interesting story behind all these builds!  The only difference is being why I got to purchase this stash and a cute story of Mrs. Toshi's and I outing today.  It's on the Academy 1/72 F-35A Lightning II build, page 2.  As always, thank you forum members from the bottom of my heart for following my builds and allowing me to be part of this fantastic community of great people!

Nice little haul there.

That leopard is one of tamiya's early AFV kits, 1969. I have not seen that one myself, but the kits from that period are pretty nice for theiur time and a good build to get started with armour on.

Don't worry, i am sure there will be plenty of advice for you when you do that.

Wow, I didn't know that, that's interesting information.  You sure have a vast grasp and knowledge on all these kits, it's amazing.  Thanks for your time with me Bish.  I really do cherish this!

O, i am not that good Toshi. Its just knowing where to look. There is a site called scalemates which gives a history of kits as well as reviews and where they can be bought. The only review i found of the leopard, it looks rather nice for its age with a nice caste texture. The one issue might be the tracks. Those old rubber band tracks can be a pain to get together.

This is the scalemates page on that kit.

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/113900-tamiya-35064-kampfpanzer-leopard

And this is the review it links to.

I wish my local hobby store carried Tamiya, Hasegawa, and Italeri model kits.  They don't have a very big selection of aircraft.  What they do have is mostly Revell.  Even with what little they have I can still spend at least an hour just in that isle.  Smile

Still my friend, it sounds like you're having fun at your hobby shop.  The last time we went there was when it was snowing.  It was last December, 2015.  We drive close to 45 miles to get there then I had to hurry as some family members were waiting for me.  I didn't get to spend an hour like you.  This trip was the same situation!

Maybe next time I'll just plan a day just to go!  LOL!

Some Revell kits can match the best out there, and at a good price but you do need to check what your getting first.

My LHS carriers mainly Airfix, along with Revell and Italeri and a few hasegawa. And at a push i can spend all of 10mins in there.

I find it really useful, i use it all the time both to help find info on kits when people ask on here and when decideing which kit of a certain subject to buy. It saves a lot of time looking for reviews and other info on kits.

Nice haul, sir.  You will love the Corsair, its a great kit.  If you would be so kind, post a WIP of the Arado, that one has me curious.  Also, its good that you got a target for all of those airplanes you build.  Stick out tongue

You'll have them all done next week, right?

Nice haul.

The Tamiya Corsair is a great kit that I have built twice, with the birdcage version still in my stash (both the 48 and 32 scale kits).

The Italeri Arado is a great kit. Goes together like it is a Tamiya. I no longer own the one I built, as I donated it to the USS Lexington museum.

Looking forward to seeing your Arado and these other builds.

Thank's wolfhammer1!  I feel the same way about the Corsair. As I have built kits, every single build I've done has been a WIP thread here.  It's always my pleasure to do so, with this I've learned so much from you all.  Thank you wolfhammer1,

LOL!  You know, another member here that far surpasses my skill and finishes his builds quickly is Fermis.  He's always building things back to back.  I try to do my best in advancing my skill level in each build.  I'd like to someday be as good as you and the other FSM Forum members here.  I hope to meet your and forum members expectations with my tank build.

Thank's Aggieman!  Yes, I too have built the Tamiya 1/32 Corsair Birdcage version but this Tamiya 1/48 Corsair will be my first time.  The next Corsair I'd like to build is the Trumpeter 1/32 Corsair.  As for the Arado, thank you for the input/review.  ThIis my very first kit from Italeri.  I'm so excited to build the Arado, hence it being my first kit to build from my stash.  Thank you so much for your support in my projects.  I so appreciate this!

I'm doing just fine Tanker - Builder!  Thank you for asking.  I've never made the Raiden so this should be an interesting and exciting build.  Yes, I have to agree with you in that the Corsair will not only be a pleasure to build for me but a exciting build since it's a Tamiya 1/48.  Thank you so much for the read and reply.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

Toshi I look forward to seeing each of those builds. The only one of the four I have built is the Leopard. Real stright forward kit. I will say this I will be looking for another. As I was building it I saw a lot of things that could be fixed and some things that would look better scratch built.

Oh, ho, ho! A Tamiya Leopard! Nice pick, Toshi. You'll not regret that choice.

I've had that Vallejo weathering kit for green vehicles for some time now. You're going to love it. The directions on the box are good, but take a bit of guesswork and extrapilation. But when the time comes, you know where to go.  ;)  We'll take care of you over there. lol

So, Toshi, you are trying to build a stash. All modelers that I know have a stash. But, in order to have a stash you have to buy them faster than you build them. Do you think that you can do that? Actually, you seem to enjoy cranking thes kits out and thereby have become the FSM kit reviewer!

Hi M. Brindos, I've been expecting you to reply to this thread in regards to the leopard build.  I'm so very happy you did! LOL!

I know you've been waiting for me to pick up a Armour kit for a while, I had to make room for my armour presentation area.  I gave my Tamiya Bulldog to a young budding modeler of Mrs. Toshi's friend.  He was really excited.  He wants a model for his birthday.  I still have my M1A1 Acadamey Abrams that you helped me to weather, and again, I thank you for that!  I'll never forget that wonderful time with you.

As for the AFV Vallejo Weathering kit, although the instructions are in detail, I'm very happy that you and other armour forum members are willing to assist me in this particular build.  I so appreciate it and I look forward to that.  I can't wait!

LOL!  The FSM Kit Reviwer!  LOL!!!!  I probably need one thousand dollars to make a stash happen.  Maybe more!  LOL!    I very much enjoy building of the myriad of kits available, it's so engrowsing. I'm so glad and estatic for these four kits Mrs. Toshi purchased for me in that I'm making these kits in honor of her.  She really likes the Arado very much!  Mr. Shipwreck, thank you so much for supporting my projects and giving me the confidence needed to endevour.  You're a good friend!
