1/40 Revell A-1H Skyraider

Originally tried to build this when I was 14, model was never finished. I still had 2 in stash so I wanted to try again. The model is stock. I did add antennae by pit that was used by USAF Spads. Guns are metal. Shawn G.

As Buckeye points out the oil on the drop tank is something I enjoy very much. The build is fantastic, it's nice to see a camoflauge Skyraider as oppose to a gray one. Great job!

Neat! I built one of those in about 1958, wow, it was sooo great. A game changer in my modeling life. Aurora was so out after that.

I also built that kit in its original late 50s release (when it was "new"). Your build is a beauty and represents an Air Force SPAD (AD-6 before being redesignated A-1H/J) very well. The radial engine on those were very "oily" and the staining on your model is very realistic. The A-1 could hang arround and provide air cover for a long time unlike the fast movers (jets) that zoomed in and zoomed out.

I remember that kit. It had a lot of parts and seemed to have a lot of detail. As I recall didn't the landing gears retract and weren't the dive brakes connected to each other? It was quite a kit!

I used to wonder how they even flew . The engine area looked to small for the plane !

Now after seeing them in action yeras ago I understand the simple design behind these " Flying Dump Trucks " . I have Never seen so much ordnance stuffed on one bird . And it still flew !

Because of this unique way of being , what with the oil leaks and absolutely grungy looks , they did the job amazingly well . Great model too . By the way , You did it up proud . T.B.

Wow did that picture wow me when i opened this thread! Nice job on the camo. I especially like the weathering and oil, very realistic.

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!
