Got a couple of Italeri Prowlers to do sometime, this build is giving me an itch. Nice results so far, will be following to the end.

bob, that was something we used to call "leading edge tape".  it was an amber/mustard opaque type tape put on the leading edges of the wings, stabs, and tail surfaces.  it was usually applied as part of the anti corrosion effort and protected the paint on the leading edge surfaces.

i used some vallejo color on a hobbyboss a-6a.  will look through my stash to see if i can find it.  basically, i just ran a brush over the bottom leading edge of the slat/stab and top edge of same. maybe 1/16".

that said, i dont think anyone would notice if you didnt put it on......

Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appreciate it. Thanks for the info Glen, you've been a lifesaver for this project. If I have anything that is a similar color I'll just mask and brush it on, if not I can go without.

I looked through my paints and the closest I have to an amber/mustard color is a spray can of "Afrika Mustard" or maybe a bottle of dunkelgelb. If either of those won't work I'll just forgo painting the tape on. Would be a shame though, I like colorful Navy birds.

bob, i went to the vallejo site.  i am almost certain i used the "Tan Glaze" 70-831 for my a-6a.  i think they call it some sort of "patina".  it looked pretty realistic, but i am sure there are a lot of paints out there that will look good.

good luck.  can't wait to see the finished product.  my son and i built the revell kit back in '97.

Looking at it on their website Afrika Mustard seems closest. Now the trick will be if I can remember to add it on...

You're doing a great job on this bad a@@ looking bird.  Your preshading looks spot on and adds a nice  touch to the realism of it.

This is looking really good. I pulled up a close up of the underside and I think I cansee how you did the pre-shading with some darker spots out unto the wing area and such. very well done. If you have a few in progress pics of the preshading id love to see one or two.

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

Thanks Mongoose! Unfortunately my phone was acting up at that point and I don't have any pictures of it. I sprayed darker on the panel lines, then turned the pressure down and sprayed random dots and squiggles in the middle of the panels of varying darkness. Then when I painted the top color I did a base coat and then added color until I liked the look of it.

Well, it wasn't until I came back to this to realize I forgot to add the leading edge tape.  Oh well, it still looks decent without it.

With school out I've finally gotten enough time to make some progress on the Intruder.  Decals are on, and the squadron emblem on the tail has been giving me so trouble.  A few well placed cuts with a new no. 11 blade and Micro Sol helped it out.  Now I need to put on a flat coat.

I also got the landing gear ready to go, and the rockeyes.  Slowly getting there...

I sprayed dullcote today and noticed something strange.  I seem to have some kind of strange effect that I don't recall ever having before.  I've always used Testor's lacquer dullcote out of the can and this is what I used here.  It is sprayed over Model Master enamels, which is also what I nomrally use.  I don't think I'm doing anything differently than I usually do it, but I could be wrong.  I used a different can on the top of model, but I got the same result.  Did I accidentally put it on too thick?  Am I too close to it?

Thanks Toshi! I took another look this morning and I think the humidity is causing things to take longer to dry. I had to look really close to see the problems that I saw last night. I'm getting the last bits put on and then some weathering and she'll be all finished up. Hopefully by Monday...

She's all done!  I learned the hard way to align bombs and sway braces at the same time.  Since I didn't, some of the bombs don't line up right.  Oh well, I still like how it looks overall.

I really like your Intruder, sorry about the orange peel (?) with the clear. My dad was an A-6 mechanic with VA-128.

That looks fantastic. Great job. You got those tail decals to behave quite nicely.

Thank you very much guys! The tail decals were a bit of a pain. Slices with a knife, pin holes, and Micro Sol helped a lot. There are still a couple of bubbles and a few small wrinkles but I'm leaving it at good enough.

Nice work, Bob! That's the second gorgeous Intruder build this month and I'm sure that I'm not the only one out there who is considering adding this kit to the stash because of the work you guys shared with all of us. Thanks for sharing this project with the forum - great job!

Thank you all very much, I'm humbled by all these compliments. This really is a nice kit if you don't mind raised panel lines. There are just a few areas where there are some fit issues, but they're not too bad at all. The bottom of the fuselage is the worst part if I remember right.
