1/48 Monogram P-47D Razorback

Hey FSM,

This is one of four Thunderbolts that I've been working on. This particular kit's been on my Shelf of Doom for a long time, so I figured I'd break it out and finish it for the Shelf of Doom 2016 and Thunderbolt 2016 GBs. As a matter of fact, I started a thread on this build back in '15. If you're interested in seeing it, you can see it here.

It' finished OOB except for decals from an old Microscale sheet and some tape seatbelts in the cockpit. It's painted with MM enamels and weathered with Flory washes and pastels. You eagle-eyed modelers will notice that the wingtip lights hadn't been painted at the time the photos were taken. I have since painted them.

Anyway, let's take a look at the pictures.

Outstanding. Your OD is spot on. Is that MM enamel straight from the bottle?

lawdog114, to answer your question, yes. The OD is MM straight from the bottle. Thing is, I primed my kit with RAF Sky then painted random "patches" of browns and yellows on the upper surfaces of the airframe before spraying the OD. I got the color differences by varying coverage. Then I went back in some places with thinned MM Faded OD to add some depth.

This is one of my favorite kits, and Lt. Kilbbe's mount is probably my favorite subject. You've done a beautiful job with it! I really love your weathered finish; that olive drab looks nicely faded without being overdone. Excellent job!

Great job on one of my favorite subjects! Were the kit decals no good? Tape seatbelts and aftermarket decals are still OOB So you're still good in that category.
