The model looks realistic enough to fear.  The Alclad flat looks good to my eye, but must of the subject I choose can't be too dull.  I very much like the paint effects on the underside of the aircraft.  

How'd you do the base?  I want to do something similar for a Zero on Buin Airfield.

As to your question regarding a flat coat - have you tried Tamiya's XF-86 Flat Clear? If it is not dull enough for you when you've sprayed it on a test piece, try adding Tamiya's X-21 flat base to it - not much, just for an experiment. The X-21 should NOT be used by itself - it's for adding to Tamiya's regular paints to dull them down. Adding a little of X-21 to XF-86 would give you some variation in using these bottles from Tamiya. I have not tried this myself, just read a blurb on the 'net regarding what I've mentioned. If, however, the XF-86 Flat Clear is too dull, than all this verbiage is for naught.

What about a satin finish?  I've  been quite happy with Vallejo acrylic brand, just add about 50% distilled water.

It's basically a wooden plaque with real dirt secured by Elmer's glue.  I know that there's no pics due to Photosuck, but you can read through this to get the gist.

Howdy lawdog fine build and info also thank you for showing us.

Did you know that testors in there model master arcrylic line of paint they have clear coats in gloss and flat. No smell easy clean up. I use the 2 mixed how ever I want to make different Sheens.

They spray nice lay down good and I have no problems with them. So if your still looking givem a try.

I use tamiya paints with a badger 105 at 12 psi and was not really managing to get a nice result, little much of speckles. Do you need to thin the paint much more when you do the shading/variation? If so what ratios? I have wanted to get my hands on mission model paints but my LHS doesn't have them... where do you purchase yours?

B-dog, thanks for the suggestion.

Kien, I bought mine directly from their website, missionmodelsus.com.  I think that's the only place you can get it.  It doesn't require much thinning, perhaps a drop or two. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with your airbrush.  I use a gravity fed Iwata and generally spray in close at about 15 psi.  I basically bought Mission's tan (Britsh Sand I believe) for the RLM 74 and plain white for the RLM 75, to lighten them.  I then shaded it in to simulate fading.  I like Tamiya paint too, but have no luck mixing their RLM colors.       

Lawdog, seems like I should give a try at some other paints. I only use tamiya. I'd like to try gunze, mission models, and tamiya with the laqcuer thinner. Probably time to experiment on some older kits to find out my niche of paints.

Damn Joe. You sure got these 190s licked huh. This looks like it's down to a science now. That new paint looks like it's winning some high marks in those completed pics. Very very nice Joe. I think 1:32 is your new home maybe. =]
