Model Maniac

The cockpit, seat and belts look awesome, Toshi. Can't wait to see you finish this kit.

Thank you Model Maniac.  You are always so kind with your words of my builds.

Here is the Black widow with the seams puttied up and readied to be sanded down upon drying.  I also have lead weights ready to be installed in the nose of the P-61 Due to it‘s being a “Tail Sitter”.

Toshi

P.S. I utilize Tamiya white Lacquer base putty.

Hey Toshi

Have you tried perfect plastic putty? I really like that stuff.  It cleans off very easily so it saves a ton of time on sanding.

Yes sir, I have tried Perfect Plastic Putty.  That is an excellent product.  I just have a supply of Tamiya White Putty to go through.  Thank you Greatmaker for the information.

Toshi, phenomenal work as always.  I'm amazed at how quickly your builds go with the degree of detail and skill you put into them.  www.maam.org is the site for the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, where they're doing that P-61 rehab.  They actually founded the museum as a way to get funding to continue the project, IIRC. The other amazing thing about that project is that they're restoring her to airworthy status, which is a whole other level from museum grade.

Anyway, sorry if I hijacked your thread a little, just thought people who were following this one would be interested in that site as well. Keep up the incredible work!

Thank you bstarr3.  Your words are way too kind and I’m most humbled by them.  Yes, maam is the site I found last night.  I recall reading about them many years ago when building my first P-61 Black Widow.  I know, isn’t that amazing in that it’s just not only a static model but an actual flight worthy Black Widow in that they are building.

You sir, can never highjack my threads/post.  What you do do is to share information with the many forum members, I thank you for that.  And thank you for always visiting my threads and reading and replying on them.  I’m most honored sir.

Toshi,

You should use tape to mask your putty work.

What you are slopping on just costs you more work later.

Also I can still see the ridges through it.

I have always been a fan. You do know that I always advise you to go slowly and use your talents. I'm seeing putty work a little like cake frosting.

This kit is the all time bad fitting kit. I've built two. Try to line up the outer surfaces during the glue process, not by a make up job afterwards.

Best,

Bill

Bstar Ty for the MAAM post. I read the whole thing and it was extreemly fascinating.

You are correct GMorrison.  Thank you for the input.  Applying that much Putty was not smart on my part.  I’ll be using tape the next time around.

Wow Toshi...it is really starting to come together. The pit looks amazing sitting in the fuselage. I took Bill's (GMorrison) advice about taping the seams before applying putty and it made a world of difference.

Looks great Toshi!

As GM and Hunter said using a little tape on each side of the seam and then applying the putty you can save yourself some work.

This should be good. Actually the kit was released in 1974, but I'm sure the 1977 edition will be fine. It my understanding that the canopies fit well on these editions. I'll be curious to see if it's true. Good luck Tosh.

Thank you so very much lawdog114.  As you can see by my putty work, I’ll need the good luck.  lol!

From the information I’m getting from FSM Forums, this is a 1974 edition.  So far, the canopy fits really well.  I’ll be taking photos of it as the build progresses.

From my previous Revell P-61 Black Widow build, it seems the canopy issue is true.  The earlier kits (Monogram) canopies fit fine.  It’s the latter kits (Revell) that have issues due to the molds.  Thank you for the support, read and reply!

Haven't popped in on your build in awhile. Looks like the P61 is coming along great! I'm like you waiting for my tube of Squadron White to be used up before I open my PPP. I hate waste. I will be using a lot of putty on my "special project" (Don't ask).

Forgot to ask, How is Mrs. Toshi doing? Better, I hope!

Yes, things are working out just great!  As they say; ”Waste not, want not!

Mrs. Toshi is doing just fine.  She had a dry test run of her proton radiation today.  Everything went according to plan!  She start’s on Monday.

Thank you very much kensar! At the very least, the lead fishing weights in the nose worked as far as balance on the trycicle landing gear.

Yes, Mrs. Toshi now has only the photon radiation treatment.

Glad to see you have progressed a lot in just a few days, the kit construction looks near complete now. So how many lead balls did you use to add weight to the head? They look so big and heavy that I'm afraid your wheel struts may break down sooner or later.
