Hodakamax, Thank you!  I have yet to see one in person.  There are a lot of older planes that I've yet to see in person.  I hope I can get to the museum in Ohio sometime in the near future.  I figure that is going to be my best bet in being able to meet some of these gems in person.  Only other option is the air show in Geneseo.  I attended it this past summer.  I got to see the C-46 Commando, C-47 Skytrain, an Avenger, and a few other birds.  I was hoping to finally see a B-25 in person, but none landed up showing up, the Corsair wasn't there either.  Hopefully next summer.  It was a very wet summer, and it is a turf runway.  I heard someone say they didn't want to chance damaging planes on take off and landing.

Chemteacher, Thanks.  Christmas break is the busy time for me.  House to clean, cookies to bake, people to visit.  Now that all of that is said and done I can get back to the Skyraider.  I've put some putty on, letting that dry now.  I'm hoping to have a coat of primer on sometime today.

Kayda,

Look up the anual air show that the USAF has at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Just off the base is the USAF Museum. You could kill two birds with one stone (forgive the pun). You could see a world class air show and visit the Museum in one trip. The base and the museum are just outside of Dayton Ohio.

As for the history lesson, these models represent history and the men and women who made it. Food for thought to add to your plethora of ideas. This is an eclectic gathering to say the least. Hoo-raw DD

rangerj, if I ever come up with the funds for the trip I will certainly try to plan it around the air show!  It's about six hours from me, so I was thinking it would be best to make it a weekend trip, and would need to stay in a hotel.

Finally made some progress today!

Painted.

Decals on.

I'm going to let everything dry overnight, and then hit with clear tomorrow, and start final assembely.

Wow, the wing tips and white outlines on the canopy came out perfect and so did the overall finish.

Scott, I don't know about perfect!  Lol.  The lines on the canopy were a bit tricky.  That is the first time I've ever had to put decals on a canopy.  The white tips were something I forgot about to start with.  I was getting ready to do the decals, and realized I forgot to paint the white!Embarrassed

Should be able to finish this up today.

Your project is looking good Keyda! Been building alot of cars and trucks myself lately, but looking forward to a Plane and Armor build soon too, along with my first boat, a 1/72 British M.T.B. "Vosper".... Looks like a british version of a P.T. boat.

Anyhow, definitley leave at least 2 days for the museum alone. It is HUUUUUUGGGGEEEE. So huge that a B-36 and B-52 look like toys inside the building. I went about 5 years ago, and we spent one full day, and most of another to see it all. moving at a reasonable pace, not being too slow.  And that was before they opened the latest hangar. One of the coolest places i have ever been, thats for sure!

Keep up the good work!

Rudy, my usual subjects are planes.  I did build a couple cars recently though.  That is my plan with the museum.  I would leave on a Friday, and maybe spend a few hours there, then all day Saturday, and if there was anything I didn't get to I would leave it for Sunday before heading home.  Crossing my fingers I can come up with the funds next summer sometime and go down.

Finished up the Skyraider this afternoon.  On to the pics!

On display.

With the Corsair.

Hi,

Those turned out nice.  The difference in size between the Skyraider and the Corsair is amazing. Surprise

Thanks keavdog, PFJN, and Chemteacher!  The Skyraider does make the Corsair look tiny, lol.  It is the biggest single engine plane I've built so far.  I'm thinking its about the same size as a TBM Avenger.  I couldn't say for sure cause I haven't seen both in person.

The Corsair and Skyraider turned out great...again. I didn't know they made Skyraider that sat 3. I guess I always assumed they were singled seaters. Learn something new every day. Not to sound like a travel agent, but if you do go to the Air Force Museum, you may want to check out Yellow Springs. Google it. You might find it interesting. Cool little small town.

Those builds look great Keyda. That’s a nice pair of “Polka Dot” aircraft.

DasBeav, Thanks!  I have yet to see one in person.  Hopefully someday!  I'll look into that if I ever come up with the funds to take the trip.

Nice Skyraider, revell kits can be built up into very nice models if you have the patients and yours looks amazing. If you get to Wright Patterson You'll be there a week or longer trying to look at and read everything. I live about three hours away and try to make it over every year. They have just opened a fourth hanger last year or maybe two years ago, and have the air force one's and the experimental jets over now from the base. You'll love it there.

Thanks Rambo!  I've come to understand some Revell kits need more love than others, lol.  This one was actually not bad.  I've also had 2 of their kits that went together beautifully, and needed very little work.  Roughly half the kits I've built are Revell.

I am certainly going to try to make it to the musuem in the near future.  I'm sure I wouldn't want to leave once I get there and see all the aircraft.  If I don't make it this summer I should get my fix with the two local airshows that will be happening over the summer.

Super job Kayda, I hope you get to visit the USAF Museum. As for a Skyraider with more than one seat, the AD-5 (or A-1E) is not the only one. The AD-4N IIRC has a compartment just behind the trailing edge of the wing for a radar operator. The radar operator has his/her own door for getting in and out of the compartment. I think ESCI did a model of this version as well as an AD-4 W version. Anyways, again that a super job Kayda.

Thanks ranger!  I hope I can get there too.  I'm sure it's the best place to see the most aircraft in person.  Thanks for the info.  Sometimes it's just confusing with how much the upgraded or changed aircraft, I'm slowly learning!

Nicely done Keyda !  The Skyraider is one of my favorite prop planes. I have and have had several Radio controlled versions. Have not built a plastic model of one "Yet"  A little historic info to add-on.  It was the only single engine plane capable of carrying a nuclear bomb, could carry a 12 man assault team plus pilot/pilots, weapon array was the most versatile ever until the A-10.  I think it had more names than any other plane IE: Sandy, Spad, South Vietmanese called the 2 seater the Ugly Water Buffalo, I know there is more, I just dont remember them all.  For a fun read check out the story of the SkyRaider and the toilet bomb.   Dale

Keyda, I just found this thread and you did a great job on the Skyraider.  While it would be a bit farther, the EAA Airventure in Osh Kosh, WI, is guaranteed to have a great selection of aircraft and they fly most of them.  I finally got to see a Corsair fly up there a few years ago.  Still haven't seen a Skyraider fly, although I have seen a few that could fly, but just wasn't there when they did.  To answer another question, the Avenger is just a bit bigger, but only a couple of feet all around.  54' wing span vs 50' for the Skyraider.

Nice work as always, and thanks for sharing

Thanks wolfhammer!  I have 2 air shows to attend this year.  The first one will be at our local air base, that will mostly be modern, still in service stuff.  But Whiskey 7 usually makes an appearance there too.  Then there is another air show in Geneseo, which is only a few hours away from me.  They have the older aircraft.  Last season we had a ton of rain, a lot more than usual, and there was some aircraft that didn't want to risk landing on the turf runway.  So I missed out on seeing a few different B-25's, and the Corsair.  Hopefully this year will be better.

Keyda, nicely done. And it looks very well with the Corsair.

The puttying and whatnot certainly paid off. The white stripes on the canopy kind of put it over.

cheers
