Saw something in a magazine today that I thought you might like to hear about.
A friend just dropped off a copy of the May issue of "Flying" magazine. On page 82 is a pic taken slightly before March 24 from above an F-35 Lightning II making a pass over the runway of NAS Kingsville, Texas with the Blue Angels parked on the runway preparing to practice for the coming show on March 24-25.
Point of interest in the article was that the Blue Angels are preparing to switch to an all Super Hornet squadron soon. The Navy gets its F-35s next year. There's no word on when the team might upgrade to the Lightning II.
Seeing the Blue Angels in Super Hornets sounds great but in F-35s sounds fantastic. Hope I'm still around to see that.

F-35 Angels would look fantastic! I'm not into 35's enough to build a model of one but they would look great in blue and yellow, and I'll bet the Angels could up their game when it comes to maneuverability.

Seeing how the A & B F-35s are just entering operational squadrons and seeing their first overseas deployments now, and that the C is not quite there yet, I think that is safe to say that we have another decade to go before the Blues get the F-35. If ever. After all, the Blues never flew the Tomcat. It would have to be after the 35 is in fleetwide service, or approaching that mark.
On a side note, it appears that Israel has already taken their F-35s on combat sorties over Syria. Just like with the F-15 and F-16 when those were brand new, their baptism of fire has happened in IDF colors in the skies of the Middle East.

To me, my first thought when I hear Blue Angels is an F-4. I remember being on my parents boat and watching the Selfridge air show from the water. Good times.
I do like the F/A-18 in the Blue Angels colors, and I think the F-35 would look fantastic in those colors too. Just my humble opinion.

Funny how the demo team gets the cast-offs and worn out airframes to promote the service.
Would be nice to see a set of BA decals for the -35 to do a what if bird, or see if a set of -18 decals woud work.
On a side note, saw a business card in the pizza joint last night....instead of "recuiter", the Navy now calls them "talent aquission specialist". About dropped the box with my dinner, laughing.

Not necessarily. Both the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels respectively got their F-16s and F-18s as those types were becoming mainstream with each service in the 80’s. But that shows how long each service has been using those two types now, for four decades: 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, ‘teens...
That would be akin to using early WWII fighter designs, designed in the mid to late 30’s up thru the 70’s.

Dang! your right. I never thought of it that way before.
I just can’t see F-35s being Blue Angels, let alone Thunderbirds if that ever came to an idea. Never did like the looks of the F-35s anyway. I’d rather take the Super Hornets instead. At least they look meaner and sexier than the F-35s.

I like how you can get up and see them at eye-level. We've been to the museum many times.
The A-4 and the Blues have a special place in my heart. The team was flying A-4s when they let me and a dozen Civil Air Patrol Cadets sit in on their breifing before that days airshow. They (the Blues) were magnanamous. The cadets got a tour of Fat Albert. Fond memories.
Note one of those cadets got a Navy ROTC scholarship and stayed in for 30 years. We had two cadets get appointments to U.S. Military Acadamies, 1 USAF and 1 USCG. CAP is a good program if you know any youngsters interested in aviation and/or military service in general.
