1/144 Minicraft EC-121R Complete
Posted by keavdog on Sunday, January 6, 2019 4:36 AM

I built this kit for the Eye In The Sky group build.

This is a 1/144 Minicraft EC-121R from the Batcat 553 Reconnaissance wing stationed at Korat during the Vietnam war.  They were running a top-secret mission dropping listening devices along the ho chi minh trail and these birds would circle on station listening for activity.  My dad was a senior master sergeant in avionics with this squadron.

Not the greatest kit - a few fit issues, flash etc.  Anyhow - here she is

Still figuring out the black basing

Sausage masking at this scale is a bit difficult

A bit of bleed from the black basing I had to correct

Glossed and decals on - Mig filter applied and ready for dull coat

And the final product.  Super finicky gear door issues with this kit.  Anyhow - here she is

Great work, John!

She really looks 'ready for business' in the SEA camouflage, which you've rendered beautifully.

A very nice tribute to your father's service.Yes

I did the same kit, and I agree not the greatest.  I had fit issues as well.  With some work it still turns out to be nice.  Great job!

Nice results, John.  I have not see a military plane based on the Conny.

Pawel - Thanks for the kind words.  You have a nice day too

Greg - I love the look of the SEA camo.  I need to practice with my double action.  Sausages are tedious especially doing 4 colors

Mississippivol - thanks

Keyda - I really want to do a navy bird blue/white/orange.  I got the decals for it.  What scheme did you do yours in?  BTW - those gear doors were the most fiddley.

Kensar - thanks.  The connie was the eye in the sky for some time.  Other variances have large radar blisters, towers and the iconic giant disc - all bristling with antennae.  Google it, some really pretty birds.

TempestJohnny - thanks man

Thanks,

John
