WIP - Revell 1/48 P-51B "Pappy's Answer"

For my next build I'll be tackling Revell's 1/48 P-51B.  I'll be doing the markings of "Pappy's Answer" of the 364th FS, 357th FG.

So far I've finished up the cockpit.  A little basic, but still detailed enough for me.  It's all OOB except for some PE belts.

You've got a great start there on that classic Monogram kit!  It still holds up well, around 50 years after it was first issued.  It's one of my favorites.

I should have known it was a Monogram kit! It looks really nice in the box and I love Monogram kits

No worries!  I'm a Monogram fan, and a member of the Monogram Mafia here in the forum.  So I'll toot their horn as appropriate Wink

Yeah, Revell, did their P-51B in 1/32, but in 1/48, they only ever released a P-51D.  And that kit never saw the light of day again, after the companies were merged in '86.  This kit, though, the Monogram P-51B, was reworked for the ProModeler catalog by replacing the raised panel lines with scribed lines.

I like it because it's relatively simple to build and you can have a nice-looking Mustang when you're done.  I don't refuse to build other companies' versions-the Tamiya kit is very nice indeed.  But this one has a place in my heart.

I hope you build more of them and share them with us!

I'm a big fan and Monogram Mafioso myself.  Monogram kits make up a pretty sizeable portion of the stash.

So I got the fuselage together:

Next up is the wings.  The ports for the machine guns are just holes so I figure I need to put something in there.  At first I thought I could use some sprue and drill some holes in the ends, but the sprues were too thick.  Then I remembered I had some spare flash supressors from a Monogram P-38.
