As far as I know, the Revell Monogram is the only game in town for 1/48.  I have been looking for one too, and have had similar luck (or lack thereof) finding one for a reasonable price on Ebay. Banged Head [banghead]

Your only other options are for an online company such as "rareplane detectives" or similar to have it, kit collectors shows/swap meets, checking all the hobby stores in your area hoping one may have one in thier old inventory, or hoping that Revell Monogram or Revell Germany re releases it again as they tend to do with most of their kits, thus kicking out the bottom of the ebay pricing. Revell Monogram did two 1/48 releases, the PBY-5 and the PBY-5A.

I have a few local connections that I can check for you. I believe at least one of them has a 48th Revellogram kit, but I don't recall which version or release it is. As of last Wednesday it was still available and I'll be visiting again tomorrow. So, if you like, send me a PM with any particulars such as version preference (if any) and your price range, and I'll try and hook you up.

I know that the Revell Kit has the messed up tail section.  However Pro-modeler re issued it in 1/48 and it was supposed to have the corrected tail.  Just type it in google and there are  a few places you can still find it, some are out of stock. Hope this helps

The problem with the tail on the Monogram kit is that it is too wide aft of the gun blisters.  It's pretty hard to find PBY drawings that show that shape correctly, so I'm not surprised that the Monogram kits have that issue.  It is the same plastic whether you find a Monogram boxing or the ProModeler, I have both.  The cure if it bothers you is a resin replacement made by Belcher Bits in Canada.  They make conversion parts to build just about any PBY, from the PBY-2 to the PBY-6A.  I have some of these sets and they are very well done.

Ronald, it helps if you tell us where you live. Frank, I know his 411. There's one on the shelf at my LHS, I'll check it today since it's my hobby shop day. I'd be surprised if it's more than 40-50. Say the word.

I have bought from Belcher, I think it was -6 tailplanes. All good. Speaking of that mark, Revell made one in 1/72 as the Cousteau a/c. Whether or not it's accurate I couldn't say.

Edit: Megahobby and Hobbylink have em for $ 35.00.

Yeah, Revell re-released the 1/48th Monogram PBY-5A as a USAF OA-10A for about 35.00...     If you want a PBY-5A, it's a simple job of replacing the USAF decals and painting it blue or black...   Just be sure you have space for all the wing... It's a fine kit...
