Like bspeed said, at $10 you can't go wrong...and your's definately went right. I love the look those yellow wing aircraft. Great job on the kit!

One needs to shop.....PM....and shop some more. I got 3 Tammy kits.....$12 for the older gray plastic.....$6 each for two silver plastic re-pops........same kit.....less parts/options.

But this build is sweet!

An immaculate build! Like Frank said, a flawless paint job, but to me I have to say that the details in the engine cowl really pop! That's awesome...Cool [8D]

Warmest regards,

Roger

Im with SC on this. Just not seen nearly enough. I know there were loads of different colour schemes for this bird and Theatres of ops but the yellow winged version has to be up there near the top for me. The canopy looks fantastic and shows off the interior to a tee. Top marx.

No excuses needed jeff. In my opinion this bird is not seen enought and yours build is spectacular! The alluminum dope finish with the yellow wings looks spot on to me. As a matter of fact it looks like a show winner to me. I can not pick out one thing that is not perfect on your build. Keep up the great work Jeff and I can't wait to see your next project!

The Brewster's an ugly bird, but you made it look beautiful.

One of those is on my wishlist too. I think I'll paint it in the pre-war scheme too. I just hope I can get mine looking half as nice.

Looks great!! I am building this kit as we speak. Not bad but some fit issues so far. Not sure why but I like the Buffalo but I do. From what I can find it was really not that bad of a fighter. A little underpowered but not as bad as most think. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys.

Brian, the fuselage and underwing of the real aircraft weren't NMF, but were painted with an aluminum colored paint, so I used my favorite aluminum shade, Xtracolour's RAF High Speed Silver here, as well as in the gear wells and cockpit.  It covers and lays down really well when thinned correctly, but takes about 24 hours to fully dry (a characteristic of all Xtracolour paints I've used).  After painting and decaling, I sealed everything up with a mixture of Future and a little Tamiya Flat Base do dull it down a little to a more realistic semi-gloss.

Thanks again!

Beautiful work, Jeff!  I am especially impressed with the nmf - is it Metalizer, SNJ or AlClad?  The canopy framework is outstanding also!  Thanks for sharing!  Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Very nice work.  An oldie but still a pretty nice kit.  I've yet to tackle the Classic Airframes/Special Hobby kit, but it does look good in the box.

Nice addition to the collection Jeff.  Something about Yellow wings that bring out the pugnacious lines of the Buffalo.

Another F2A-2 Buffalo

Seems like these pop up fairly regularly here.  I have to admit, it is one of my favorite subjects, though I'm not really sure why given its mediocre combat record (exc for Finland!).  This is Tamiya's F2A-2 Yellow Wings boxing from a while back, basically built straight out of the box with the exception of Eduard color photoetch additions to the cockpit.  This is one of Tamiya's older 1/48th kits, but is still pretty decent, with a strange mix of recessed and raised panel lines.  Overall detail is pretty good for the standards of the day when first molded, but has been way surpassed by the newer Classic Airframes kit, especially in the wheel well, an area that Tamiya totally ignored.  I picked this one up on Ebay for $10, which is a fine value in my opinion, thought I don't think its worth the current retail being asked.  Overall fit was pretty good, though the horizontal stabilizers and the wing/fuselage joint under the fuselage required some filler to smooth things out.  Canopy fit was pretty poor, too, thought I don't remember this on the British B.339 version I built earlier so this may be my fault.  The kit original decals shattered when I first tried to use them, so they were almost all replaced with Yellow Wings decals from their F2A sheets.  These didn't go down as well as expected, even with setting solution, and silvered some even thought they were laid down over Future.  I did use the original squadron badges and prop emblems after applying liquid decal film to strengthen them.  Tamiya provided blue stripes for the fuselage band and wing chevrons, but they were way off in color.  I ended up painting them on with Xtracolour True Blue which I think looks much better.  Besides, I never have any luck laying down large decal stripes.  Overall , I'm quite pleased with the end result even with my mistakes, and will probably score another off Ebay to build a Dutch version someday.  Sorry for the extended post, just thought I'd pass on a few lessons-learned for those looking to build the same kit.  Cheers!
