Looking for F-100F in 1/48 scale

Pat Hawkey's article is, to a FineScale old timer like me, a refreshing blast from the past. That type of article is what made FSM the best magazine in model-land, no ifs, ands, or buts. Guys like Pat, Ros Creed, Bob Steinbrunn, Paul Budzik.....

Ahhh, memories.....

If you don't want to go the chop and channel route for a two-holer Hun, get the C&H conversion, it is superb.

Hey Butz and Lawrance: Thanks alot guys for your help. I did a Google search and found a little mail order company in Nebraska that handles C & H products plus, as they say, A WHOLE LOT MORE. C & H makes a 1/48 resin conversion for the Monogram F-100D. The catalogue description says the kit consist of 2 replacement fuselage halves, front & rear seats, rear instrument panels, clear vacume formed canopy and canopy bar--- for $40. Not bad I'd say. There were several other kits listed for F-101's, AV-8's, and others. The mailorder company's name is AVIATION USK Nebraska, www.aviationusk.com/indes.html. Click on "Aircraft Kits", then "C & H Aero Miniatures. While following the links on this site, I found a looooooonnnngggg list of resin a/c engines in 1/48, 1/32, and 1/72 scales---mostly 1/48.

Did some checking and this is what I found. A company called War Eagle did a 1/48th vacuformed(yuck) conversion for the F-100F.
The resin conver. I was talking about was done by a "out of the basement kinda company" I think called Air Prod. These guys where out of N.Carolina. The owner flew with my uncle who also does models(WWII, modern 30+yrs). My uncle Rick flew in the Air Force for 33yrs retiring from the 20th FG as a LtCol. So he will be in town in the next few days so I'll give him a shout.
For the conversion as mentioned by L Hansen, good luck..!!! I did a conver. about a few months ago to make a 2 seat A-7(AF of course). BOY that was a lot of work to mate the resin w/ the plastic fuselage. I have done smaller conver but this takes the cake LOL..!!!. Well best of luck to ya in your quest to make a 2 seat "Fox" model. You're in luck: the April FSM has a big feature by Pat Hawkey on converting the Monogram 1/48 scale F-100D. He mentions a resin conversion set from C&H Aero Miniatures, but Pat takes a different route: he splices in a section of fuselage from a second F-100D kit. Looks like a lot of work, but the photos in the article show it can be done.

P.S. Isn't it amazing how many advances in weaponry--many of which we still use today in developed form--derive from the Germans in WWII?

Thanks, Butz. I'll sure check that source. I've heard somewhere that some company put out a resin detail kit for changing a D model to an F model a few years ago.( in 1/48 scale )., but that person didn't recall any manufacturer's name. Yeah;, the good old Monogram models are the ones I have. Thanx again.

If its still available, you will have to use the Monogram 100D as the back bone. If worse comes to worse check out e-bay or the local IPMS shows.

You may want to check w/ Meteor products. I think Cutting Edge did a two sitter before. I have seen it before so I know it was made at one point (all resin). You may want to double check w/ the mfg.
But I do know Cutting Edge did a Charlie model. Good hunting..!!! Flaps up,Mike
