Thanks guys,
I'm using the 1/48 Tamiya kit with Sky models decals. Cool part about the Tamiya kit is after you pre-paint all the interior parts you can build it in 15 minutes, it just falls together, no putty needed. And Sky decals are the best, the spitfire sheet gives you only 1 set of national insignia but codes and special marking for 22 Spitfires from the Mk 1 to Mk 16.

To my knowledge the white and black scheme was only used right up to the begining of the Battle of Britain, where upon most fighters went to the Sky type "S". Later to a very light grey. Ext dark sea grey was used on the upper surfaces to replace the Dark Earth later in the war.

Alan Deere would have had the Sky undersurfaces on his spitfire during the Battle Of Britain.

Years ago, I did Deere's Spitfire (code KL B) with the port half undersurfaces painted black and the starboard white. Off-hand, I don't remember the source of that scheme and since I'm at work can't check. Could be you're doing a different a/c entirely. I'm not knowledgeable enough about British a/c to be much help unless I dig through my library. BTW, what kit is it?

Deere's BoB Spitfire

Hello All,
I'm building Alan Deere's Spitfire from the Battle of Britian. And something in the painting instructions perplexes me, and I thought I'd ask you guys for help. It tells me to paint the underside Ext. Dark Sea Grey. I thought all spitfires in the BoB were painted Sky type S on the underside? An old Profile book shows it as Sky, but the painting instructions say Ext. Dark Sea Grey.
Thanks,
