Mike- Thank you very much!  That is very high praise coming from a fellow 109 aficionado like yourself!  Also a relief to hear that the pitot isn't TOO bad. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Karl- I'm with you brother!  Can't wait to see your finished "Karl" for the 109GB.

Jeremias- Thanks my friend!  I know that you are not a 109 fan, but I appreciate the feedback on this one.  Means a lot! Approve [^]  I use a Badger 100LG with a fine needle, and Tamiya and Gunze paints exclusively. Thumbs Up [tup]

Wow Frank!!! what a beautiful model! I think is one of your best.... The pain job look fantastic! whaw AB and paints do you use? a flawless finish my friend... like the overpaintd balkan cross on the bottom. I don´t like muh the 109 or 190, or spit, mustangs, zeros and so one... not for the planes, but because i´m tired to see those models... but yours man... I like it! (nice scheme you choose)

congratulations and best regards

Frank, you wait years for a non-Luftwaffe 109 to come along, and then...

..BANG!! Two in a week.

Great looking build, love the painted out Balkan Kreuz.

Sheeez, I thought you were never gonna' finish that thing! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Frank, it's always a treat to see your work, what a beauty!  Mottling is perfectly done, along with everything else.  The white theater markings really help break up the the grays and add an interesting visual element, one of the reasons I love Axis Med aircraft.

Don't sweat the pitot tube, it looks about right.  A factoid that most people miss when they build a 109 is that the pitot tube was actually angled downward a few degrees.

Ahhhh... I see! I don't think the pitot detracts from your build one bit! Just curious as to why it couldn't be bent.

My wife, her family and 3/4ths of the population in this little state are Italian... knowing the way that they drink (home made) wine, I'm sure someone backed the fuel truck into your pitot! Tongue [:P]

Thank you for that, and I am definately gonna use that excuse reason for the bent pitot! Big Smile [:D]

jmabx- Thanks,  I really appreciate that!  I used wire and tube for the pitot, and it is glued very firmly to the model.  I tried some gentle bending, but it is quite strong so the plastic of the wing would probably give first.  I'll try to think of another way. Thumbs Up [tup]

Many thanks all!  This was a fun build, and the comradiere (did I spell it right? Confused [%-)]) of the Regia Aeronautica Group Build was second to none. (shameless plug for Guy, hoping I get special privileges now!)  Stop by and have a look, and build one too if you can!

Richie- You are to kind, but thank you very much! Blush [:I]

Mike- Sorry, I do not recall exactly the psi I used.  Just turned down the pressure until it seemed "right".  I would guess about 12-15 psi?  For the weathering, I gave her a flat coat with PollyScale flat and then gave her an overall raw umber oil wash.  Some black oils for oil leaks, and a light overspray of Tamiya buff to blend it all together.  Some light gray pencils for scrathes, and sme Mig Productions pigments for the tires/wheels. Thumbs Up [tup]

Charles- Thank you very much!  I appreciate that. [6]

Marc- I don't know what you said, are you insulting me?!? LOL  OK, really- what did you say? Confused [%-)]

Sean- Thank you very much my friend.  Mottle effects are some of my favorite to paint, but tricky to get it right!

Guy- Thank you, I wouldn't have built one of these if it wasn't for your GB!  A lot of fun for sure. Thumbs Up [tup]  Don't stand too close to the screen, it freaks me out a bit when people stand too close. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Frank, ive said it once and it deserves saying again, Beautifull build. You are definately one of the best, my friend. Do you think if i stand close enough to the screen, it may rub off?

Shock [:O]  B.. E.. A.. U.. T.. I.. F.. U.. L..

Absolutely amazing! Everything is perfect (except the pitot of course Wink [;)])! I really like your antenna rigging... weak spot for me but maybe I can learn something from you sometime!

Why are you afraid of breaking the wing seam to fix the pitot tube? Did you use something other than the kit supplied pitot?

BTW, I really like the Hasegawa 109's... nice kits!

Once gain, amazing work... I absolutely love it! You are truly a master of your hobby! Big Smile [:D]

Howdy Frank,

Simply stunning my friend!! Simpilot said it all..Make a Toast [#toast] What psi did you set your AB at and what method did you use for the weathering?

And as for the silvering of your decals, it's hard to tell!

 Thank you for sharing!

Flaps up,

Mike

Regia Aeronautica Hasegawa 1/48 ME-109G-6 finished!
Posted by Daywalker on Friday, July 31, 2009 7:29 PM
This is my recently completed 1/48 Hasegawa ME-109G-6, built for Luftwoller's Regia Aeronautica Group Build.  Paints used are Tamiya and Gunze, with kit supplied decals.  The decals have a bit of silvering, but I snuggled them down as best as I could.  Also, I think the pitot tube is bent a little too much, but trying to straighten it meant possibly breaking the wing seam so I left it as is.  Built as a machine flown with 365 Squadriglia, 150 Gruppo Autonomo in July 1943.  The Hasegawa kit included parts to convert the G-6 in the box to a G-4, but the resin parts looked like they were designed for an entirely different model. Confused [%-)]  So, I built it as a G-6 figuring the G-4 in the squadron was replaced with a G-6 at some point. Wink [;)]  This kit was graciuosly given to me by sfcmac, thank you Aaron!  I enjoyed it immensely, bet you thought I would NEVER finish it! Big Smile [:D]

This also marks the very first time I have finished a model in markings other than those from the country of origin. Approve [^]
