Orange peel affect with paints?
Posted by 7474 on Thursday, March 6, 2003 9:57 PM
Hi:
I just noticed an Orange peel affect on the WW1 biplane that I just finished. I'm currently painting a Korean Airlines DC-10 in 1/200, and I have noticed that even the primer paint is starting to get that orange affect.
I'm using spray cans. They feel cold when I start to paint. How do I fix this on my DC-10, and prevent this on any future paintings? I've heard that those micro mesh sanding pads will cure this.
Any advise is welcome, and will be tried. thanks.

Try heating the paint cans up a lil bit. REMEMBER not boiling water but more like bath water( hot enough but you still can touch). This helps out w/ the flow of paint.
WOW paint cans bring back some memories of my childhood modeling..!!!!
Also the room that your painting in has to be at least room temp w/ basically no humidity(maybe try a dehumidifier).
You know this is probably one of many possible answers. Good luck and flaps up, Mike

I am familiar with the orange peel problem. It is normally a direct result of applying the coats to heavily. It is best to apply several very light coats of paint, and allowing each one to dry completely before applying the next. When first applied it may appear to have a sand paper texture, but as it dries it will level itself out. "been there, done that" :)

Bigfoot01 is 100% correct. I totally forgot to answer that part of the question DUH. What I gave ya was how to treat a cold paint spray bottle. I think its bed time for Bonzo....LOL
