If you want to build large planes in large scales, and you want something different than the Revell, Monogram kits, you need to build vacuforms. Check out this link http://www.swiftsite.com/rosemonthobby/combat.htm
They carry Combat Models Vacuforms where you can find such interesting items as:
1/32 Junkers Ju-52/3m/g3e/g7e, Messerschmitt Me-410 A-1 Hornet, B-25 H/J Mitchell, B-24 D/J Liberator
1/48 PBY4-2 Privateer, Kawanishi H6K5 Mavis, C-123 "Provider", BV-222 "Wiking", PBM-5 Mariner, A3D Skywarrior
1/72 Boeing 314 "Clipper", Martin JRM-1 'Mars", C-124 "Globemaster", C-17 " Globemaster III"
and many others. Word of warning, these are basic kits, ie no details (landing gear, props, etc) but the same site also has listing of detail sets by Roberts Models designed for several of the 1/32 and 1/48 kits.

I have also seen vacuform kits by ID Models of a P2V Neptune and P-3 Orion in 1/48 but can't find any links on the web for these.

Great Models is good when they have the item you want in stock which is not often. I have cancelled several orders in the past after waiting weeks for them to get a kit from who ever supplies them? When that happens, I then order from either Squadron or Brookhurst, both are super when it comes to customer service.

There are a number of hobby shops on the internet that carry a wide selection of larger aircraft: I have made purchses from GreatModels Webstore (www.greatmodels.com); Internet Hobbies (www.internethobbies.com) and Meteor Productions (www.meteorprod.com). Meteor does not sell kits, but lots of decals and resin detail sets). Most of my purchasing has been from GreatModels. They have great customer services.

Its a personal thing, but I try and balance my online and local hobby shop purchases. If the local shop goes out of business, then I'm really stuck when I need a quick thing.

Good luck!
Chris

Depending on what subjects you want some are available as regular plastic kits. But for the really big stuff i.e. C-5 C-141 you are going to have to do vac form kits. KC-135 was done by AMT in 1/72 so you might look for that. There is a company in England called Aircraft in Miniature he does alot of bigger vacs in 1/72 KC-10 747 don't know his website offhand but he has one.

By the way do you know that a 1/48 C-5 would have a wingspan of 4feet 8inches where would you put it? Hope this helps JOHN
