Hasegawa Bf-109G-6 in 1/32 scale, with III./JG27 markings.

There's more photos on my webpage I've set up for my non-ship stuff.

Hey now!!

I got my ship together (tongue planted firmly in cheek)

Ships are my hobby, aircraft are my avocation, but I have to get away from ships once in awhile. My rule is that I won't build models of aircraft for my museum, and I won't build subjects that I have to deal with in 1:1 scale...since I don't have any Luftwaffe subjects in the museum, they're fair game!!

PS: Where you been anyway? Dropped off the face of the earth there for awhile. Any chance of buying you lunch at BuffCon this year???

Great looking 109 , Jeff

The cockpit looks superdetailed...did you use aftermarket stuff ?
The split flaps and antenna wire add realism , along with that paint job!

Yeah, I was on an idiot's vacation for a bit. But I'm 'back'...

Anyhoo, I'll definately be at BuffCon. I'll be the guy trying to sell a buncha god-awful NASCAR kits. (I know, I know... you're sayin', "WHICH guy with a buncha god-awful NASCAR kits?" Well, I'm the OTHER one...)

Speaking of shows, I heard your name bounced around at Rochester and, I think, at Syracuse. Unless there's another Jeff Herne out there somewhere... Tongue [:P]

Sheesh, I hope there's not another one of me in this hobby. I have enough enemies being just one person, imagine two of us getting everyone agitated!!

But yea, that was me...at Rochester anyway. I didn't make Syracuse, weather was bad and I couldn't get the plane off the runway. I also didn't have a ride lined up from the airport once I got on the ground. Flying to these contests is great, provided you have someone waiting at the strip to drag you to the show.

Well, if you're at BuffCon, we're definitely doin' lunch. Not sure if I'm flying up by myself, with NJIPMS friends, or driving and staying over with the family....I may crash in Rochester with the sister for a long weekend and just road-trip from there.

Drop me an email...hey, you wouldn't happen to have any Richard Petty Chargers in those NASCAR kits you're selling, would ya??

Jeff,

Nice work. I really enjoyed looking at the variety of models you have on your wabsite. I also appreciated the sentiments you expressed about why you build. Nicely stated.

Keep up the good work.

Whoa, very impressive work. The cockpit looks especially detailed!

Did you use aftermarket parts, or just paint with a very thin brush?

Thanks guys. No, the model is OOB, there's no afternarket parts on it unless you consider the decals, but those came from the spares box.

With regards to the cockpits, I fortunately have lots of color photos of 109 'pits, so I prepainted most of the parts prior to them being installed in the aircraft.

Jeff

That's a great job, Jeff! Someday I'm going to work up the courage to attempt one of those Luftwaffe camouflage schemes

Hi Paul,

It's really alot easier than it looks...just remember, when they painted them in 1:1 scale, they were using spray guns and doing it the same way we do in little scale...a splot here, a splat there...

My technique is to use layers, with thin paint and about 35 psi from the brush. It allows you to blend the colors, and even tone down others with light overspray. I do 90% freehand, and unless the actual subject has a sharp demarcation line, I don't do any masking. I freehand into the color at 30 degree angles to minimize overspray.

Give it a try!!

Gentlemen, I've been pondering over which 1/32 Hasegawa Me109 kit to build? I notice a review of the Me 109E older version kit which features along with the detailed cocpit and canopy a complete and detailed engine with removeable cowls. I did not see the same feature listed for their Me109G kits? DOes anyone have experince with these kits?

MG, the 109G-6 kit is an excellent choice...it builds very well, I had no troubles with any of the fitting. I haven't built the 109E yet, but I do have one. It's pretty far down on my list at this point. Hmmm, there's an idea for a new thread!
