What's the right color for bombs used in midway? Is it yellow or olive drab? Thanks!Tongue [:P]

Hard to say...I've seen bomb drop footage where 500lb. GPs were yellow with green stripes on the nose, green with yellow stripes, and overall red...

It would also depend on the service branch...the bombs on the racks on the deck of the Hornet prior to the Doolittle Raid (when they were pinning on the Japanese medals) were obviously OD...

If you can give me some additional info, I can try to get some color photos from the period.

Hello Joseph! Welcome to the forum! Hope somebody can help us on this. My Dauntless is an SBD-5 and I painted the bombs yellow, maybe not right for its period.

I've seen the yellow bombs even on Hellcats...not sure what the difference is?? Maybe armor piercing bombs and general purpose bombs were different colors in the Pacific?

I've often wondered about the correct color, too. I can recall several instruction sheets dictating yellow; others olive drab. I think maybe Jeeves is onto something with his idea.
