Actually, you could reproduce those rollers and rails, with some fine Evergreen strip, and some punched-out disks of thin sheet styrene.

Actually it ran on a series of rollers, the round things in the photograph, not rails. A bit late now I expect, but Part include them in their PE sets.

NB The frame was left clear, not painted, which makes masking an easy task.

You may have found it easier to have used a vac-form replacement, there are number available.

BTW it is a Malcolm Hood, search for Malcom Hood and you are unlikely to fins what you are looking for.

The Malcolm hoods on P-51s were unpainted? Huh. Something new every day!

Also, that dude's hair!

P-51B/C with malcom canopy?
Posted by Longbranch on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 4:21 PM

just finishing up the camo paint job on a 1/48 tamiya mustang III and choosing to go with the malcom canopy. I managed to nicely seperate the rear canopy section from the front winscreen with my modeling knife. originally, this particular canopy option was not engineered to be displayed opened, so the model is missing the tracks in the fuselage for the canopy to slide back. what I am wondering is if the canopy WAS meant to slide back or open to one side much like that on a german 109 or even the P-51B/C with the flat "birdcage" canopy. any insite?
