That seems like a bad day at the office....can't imagine how they would have landed or how badly that would screw up the aerodynamics. Or how any one on the ground allowed them to take off in the first place!

A wing fold while in flight??
I've read about one USN & one USAF F-4s that managed this trick - I think the photo is from the USAF one. The F-8 also did this on a least one occasion;

oddmanrush That's hot! Were they ever tested under aircraft carrier type conditions? Or were they strictly "on paper" for the most part? Imagine having carrier based Stukas....yikes.

VanceCrozier oddmanrush: Manstein's revenge: oddmanrush: Whoa, whoa, wait a minute....the Stuka had folding wings?? WTF?? Did I miss that in Axis Planes of WWII in college? Why am I always the last to know everything.... Actually that was one of a few prototypes of Stukas that were to be part of the air-wing that was never needed after the German's scrapped their carrier plans w/ the Graf Zepplin... No kidding? Neat little factoid there for me...and some people say you never contribute any useful information That's a whole other what-if category - Kriegsmarie Air Wing...

No doubt about it, wing folding is seriously good stuff, but enjoy it to the maximum, you should seriously consider some "group folding";
The classic group wing fold;
The transitional "Dirty" group wing fold;
The golden age of group wing folding;
The generic group wing fold era;
It is amazing that the wings on high-performace military aircraft can be folded, unfolded, used with no issue. I mean, I know what happens when I try to use a folding lawn chair, it ain't pretty.
If you can't Fold 'em---don't Hold 'em...
Maybe being a BIG Wing-Fold Aficionado Groupie means more room for models ...?
.....the plastic kind.
......just sayin'...............
Is that a yes?
