GB feeler "Latin American"
Posted by Theuns on Thursday, May 2, 2013 2:36 AM

Hi all. Is there anyone who would be willing to host a GB that was for Latin American Aircraft. (fixed and rotory wing)

I think there are many interesting aircraft that would qualify. Just off the top of my head things like the 1970's soccer war P-51 and F4-u's ,even all the different types of Helos, Falklands stuff ect.

I do not have the bandwith (or skills) to host :-(       (Here in SA the "airtime" is still extremely expensive compared to the "civilized" world)

Lets say 6 months long starting May??

I might do it.... but a bit further along than this month. Let's see how much interest this generates first.

Hi Stik, and here I was planing to delete the post as there seemed to be no interest atall.

Will be cool if some other guys (and gals) were interested aswell.

I recon there is a vide enough base for models to be built, just think of the DC-4 with a few "chicken coups" strapped down in the carco bay, or a F-4 corsair (all patched up ) in Honduran AF colours  :-)

Well the potential subject area is huge. I have a few Mexican and Argentine subjects in my stash, and I have thought of a "what if?" Mexican build for my F-20 kit. Lets see if there are any nibbles here...

I'm certainly watching, potentially adding something. It would depend on what else I happen to have going on at the time though, I've got a few styrene commitments already that will likely take me into the fall.

Late summer, could probably fit into my schedule. I need a good kick in the butt to get either the SUE or Pucara that I planned for Falklands GB underway. (I also have an MD Ouragan that could make an appearance in Salvadoran markings).

Cool! I like the sound of the Salvadoran Ouragon... I was hoping to hear some of that stuff from that area...

Ah krap Theuns, I picked up some decals last year for a couple 'Soccer War' F4Us just 'cause it's so awesome to see a camouflaged Corsair instead of the usual blue!

Only problem is I'm waaaaaaaayyyyyyy behind on the GBs I've already signed on for. Maybe later, I dunno, I have to stop signing up for stuff and finish something!

Gamera, this wont be starting for a few months, if it comes to pass. So with you, that makes four potential builders. If we can get at least one more I'll start putting it together.

Bummer!  I just pulled out of the stash and started working in a Super Etendard again that I had started about 18 years ago, just finished with the main painting. Falklands markings.  But I don't have anything else in the works with SA markings,  maybe a Chilean F-5?

Check out the new 1/72 Airfix A-4 Skyhawk, it has Argintine decals  and builds into a nice model.

Love it! Love it love it! Goes along perfectly with the "smaller countries" that have been popular GBs here recently.

Unfortunetly, I am way overbooked for this year. Although my schedule might be opening up soon.

Count me in if it at least goes to say, February?

Not sure what I would do, but I'm sure one of these Russian jobs I have under the bed would work for something.

Thanks.

Well, I suppose so, I've been defaulting on a bunch of GBs here recently - I hate to sign up for stuff and never finish- which I've been making a habit of.

I'm in with a 1/48th Salvadorian 'Soccer War' Corsair.

Hi I would like to belong to the group, could enter with some Uruguayan plane or some other country. What would be the time to start?

not committing to the gb just yet but I was reading an article just earlier today about the S-2  Tracker still being used by Argentina.   if I can pick up an S-2  kit by then I'd be willing to join in.

Sounds good smith. I know there is the new 1/48 kit of the S-2 out, plus an older kit or two in 1/72. I do hope you can find one and join in.

Sure sounds like fun. I really liked the Falklands GB. I have a Hasegawa Neptune and some decals that El Jere gave me.

She flew the FAC for the Exocet strike against Sheffield. She initially was loitering in the exclusion zone supposedly looking for survivors from the sinking of the General Belgrano. The crew got a return on large surface targets and went closer to investigate. After the strike was sent off, the 'tune set themselves up as a point of navigation.

I had fun on the Falklands build too! I loved those Aztec decals on my Mirage. They make some F-5E decals that I can use for the F-20 if I go tht route for a What if Mexican AF F-20. The Neptune is a good looking bird and sounds like a great build choice my friend.

Ok Garzon, I will include you on the GB as well when we kick off mid summer here. I cant think of any significant historical dates that apply in August as of yet (aside from my vacation tentatively scheduled to begin August 4th :-P )

Yes, we had a great time! I'll probably run another one in the future. I still have plenty of Latin subjects in my stash. But not this year. I have enough on my plate already to keep me busy for quite awhile.
