New T-38?
Posted by mach71 on Saturday, October 19, 2013 2:17 PM

https://www.megahobby.com/148t38atalontrumpeter.aspx

I saw this while routing around Mega Hobby's web site. Not a whole lot of information. almost nothing on Trumpeter's web site.

1/48 scale, 80 parts and photo-etch. It could be the 1st nice T-38 kit ever produced. Feb 2014.

I might have to pre order it.

wolf pack recently released a new tool 1/48 talon. only problem is the wheels. I can't remember if they were over or under scale. not much of a problem in my opinion.  seeing it has an accurate outline, people will ditch the trumpy kit. wolf pack goes for about the same price.

it looks like a limited run kit but it's far from it. there was a build thread over on arc I was following and didn't see any major problems. going for about 30 to 35 USD.

tamiya 1/48 P-47D $25 + shipping

tamiya 1/48 mosquito $20+ shipping

hobby boss 1/48 F-105G. wings and fuselage cut from sprue. $40+ shipping.

I missed the Wolfpack release.

I have the Trumpeter on preorder and I'll have to pick up the Wolfpack kit to compare.

One problem is I can't get on Wolfpacks website. It seems to be down.

It's kind of strange to go so long without a good T-38 kit and now we have 2.

the 1/1 scale ones i worker on in the air force were pretty easy to work on.    look up the OAT-38B hrom Holloman aft if you need inspiration.

Yup, I kind of have a soft spot for the 1/1 scale T-38s the Airforce let me play with as a young man.

Good news on the T-38!  I have a question for you T-38 guys.  I have a 1/48 Fujimi T-38A inbound.  Any comments good or bad on the kit?

The Fujimi kit is actually 1/50 scale and has little in the way of cockpit detail.  OK for a ceiling hangar I guess.

Thanks John!  I was afraid of that.  Oh well, at least I have a T-38 now.

I pre ordered the Trumpeter kit and bought the Wolfpack kit off of ebay. I won't have them for a while, but when I get them I'll post some comparison photos.

Got that one too, if it's the same mold from back in the early 80's or before.  No cockpit detail, wrong intakes (from what I remember someone else saying), areas on the fuse bottom were sunken in  raised panel lines, etc.  Glad to see more kits coming out!  That plane is totally cool!  Heard them in the traffic pattern all day at Sheppard.

I hate to admit it but I have the Testers 1/48 T-38 release.  I don't know anything about it past though.

I got a surprise in the mail today!

My Wolfpack T-38 came today. I was not expecting it for at

least 2 more weeks.

At first look its wonderful! nice detail, great decals, and canopy masks.

At first look the main wheels do look a tad small, but it's hard to tell at

this point.

The real bummer is there is no decals for Williams AFB, but I think I

can work around it.

Oh, and I have to wait until February for my Trumpeter kit.

Megahobby just sent me a tracking number, my T-38 is in the mail!

And It looks like Trumpeter has an A-37 coming out soon. I hope it can be backdated

to a T-37.
