Spitfire colours in Tamiya paints...?
Posted by Newtothis on Friday, January 17, 2014 6:57 PM

Hey All,

Building a Tamiya spitfire, the instructions recommend colours from their spray can line for the main fuselage sections.  However, I do not wish to use spray cans :)

They are:  AS 32 (Medium Sea Gray 2), AS 30 (Dark Green 2) and AS 31 (Ocean Gray 2).

Does Tamiya make these colours in enamel?  And if not, I'd be grateful to hear suggestions for replacements, preferably in Tamiya.  Similar Tamiya colours I have don't seem close... e.g., the Light Sea Gray (XF 25) seems too dark.

Thanks!!

Tamiya has a line of acrylics. I don't think that they manufacture enamels. But, wherever you find Tamiya spray cans, you can find the small bottles of acrylics paint, too. Just visit the local hobby shop, and take a look around and see if you can find the corresponding Tamiya acrylic colors. The hobby shop owner will be glad to help you out.

Tamiya's bottled equivalents should be:

XF-81 Dark Green (RAF)

XF-82 Ocean Grey

XF-83 Medium Sea Grey

Thanks guys.  Yep, Tamiya definitely does enamel.  It's pretty good too, for enamel lovers.

They certainly do, but the enamels aren't available in all countries, notably the US.
