I don't have a farm, but I'm lucky enough to live in a designated low fly zone where I get to see this on a regular basis - more often Tornado GR4's right enough.

Makes the kids cry & the cats scarper!

That is cool, Milairjunkie! I remember when I was stationed at Cherry Point (mid-80s to mid-90s), watching the Harriers, A-6s, F-18s, and the beloved Pedro (CH-46D rescue chopper assigned to the base - I've since forgotten how it got the nickname "Pedro") flying all the time. I sure do miss those days. That kind of noise never bothered me - at all.

I was at Bogue Field and Cherry Pt in the eary 70's and 80's. Bogue was fun for there was a Lauch and Recovery catapult & arresting gear system on both runways and nearly everyday I got to see Phantoms and Intruders being catapulted or watching them land catching the arresting wires was a sight to see. One day the L&R crew had catapulted an old volkwagon into Bogue Sound.

Ah, yes..... Bogue Field. I've driven by there many times during my stay at Cherry Point. Man, I bet it was great watching the Phantoms in operation. There were quite a few of them converted to drones & sitting way off on the opposite side of the field while I was at the Point. Had all the Day-Glo orange trim paint. Never saw any of them fly - they sat out there in the sun, collecting dust. I wonder if they're still there.....

What was your MOS, Archangel? Mine was 6482 - Deceptive Electronic Countermeasures.

Hi Dawg! I was a 7051 Crash-Rescue from 71-77 than lat moved into 6060 as a A-6 seat mech but the IM personnel manager then sent me over to VMGR-252 to run that seat shop as the NCOIC. Hated the move at first since I oved working on ejection seats but than I got in a lot of flight time on the C-130's which was fun. Also served with 152 and 352 before being assigned maintenance chief (6019) of VMFA (AW)-242 when they transition from the Intruders over to the F-18D lawn darts and retired in 92. Can't believe it's been 22 yrs ago! Where does the time go?

Nope. If I remember correctly, the movie had him stationed at Beaufort, SC, which is just outside Parris Island. But, it's been so many years since I've watched that movie, I could be wrong about that. I do know Cherry Point was shown in the movie as one of the bases Santini flew to. Probably about 250 miles down the Atlantic coast from Cherry Point to Beaufort, SC.

I know whatcha mean - I can hardly believe it's been almost 19 years since I got out. I got out back in 1995 after 11.5 years in. Got a great job now, though. Still, if I had retired, I probably have this job PLUS a retirement check coming in every month!! Oh well. No regrets about it.
