Revell-Monogram kits worth getting

As I recall, I built the F-84 some years back and it was a very nice simple kit to put together. The panel lines are raised which is no big deal. The cockpit details are sharp and easy to detail. It's a very nice kit and affordable. You did not mention the F-100, 101, 102, 105 and 106, all have IMO fantastic details and make excellent models.

With the use of Alclad paints you can make a stunning Thunderstreak in NMF.

Lol! Come join La Familia ;-) but seriously, if you saw that thread, most if those kits have been built on there. That being said, the Mosquito, P-39, and Typhoon are roughly 40+ years old. They build up nicely and the Airacobra still compares well to the latest Eduard kit. The 109 G-10 is late 70s vintage and not bad at all. With a little AM or creative work it can really shine. The Mustang is an older kit that was retooled in the mid to late 90s and is also a good kit that has held it's age well. And the Thunderjet is a new mold, new tooled kit that is VERY nice! Definitely one not to miss if you like 50's/Korean War jets.

PJ, you're thinking of the F-84F Thunderstreak, with the raised panel lines. The F-84E/G Thunderjet is new tooled recessed panel lines. A real gem of a build.

Good catch there stik! I mistook it for the older one and yes the new mold is super as I have it too. Another sweetheart is the F-86 Saber Dog, another gem.

All of 'em!...and grab a couple of their 1/72 Phantoms if you can find them...

I'm new to this one but. I like the revell line. Back in the day they was the main stay of the hobby or I should say they was the affordable line. I still pickem up.

I picked up there pc-1 Ventura it's 1/48 I think it's a new model not a  old/New releas. Can't say about the build but in the box very up to date.

Also have there  Me 410 under there pro modeler line very nice kit even has both pits full of colored photo etch by Czech republic....Edward maybe ?

The Ventura was the newest mold released by Revell until the new Stearman is due out this month. The Me-410 was one of the final new release Pro Modeler line kits. Another new tooled kit that has just been re issued in a new variant a month or two ago. There are only a handful of their kits that really have not held up well over the years.

According to my experience, the Revell P-61 Black Widow kit is a real bummer, and one to be avoided.

Ok that must be what I picked up. Squadron just had it as a new release  like 3 weeks ago. It's the

ME 410B-6/R-2  it has photo etch radar and is decaled for north Atlantic patrole or the after the war British bird.

The lines of the 410 are one of the best looking planes of the war it wouldn't look out of place today. Very modern looking.

There are only a handful of their kits that really have not held up well over the years.

I'm curious to know, if you have a couple off the top of your head

the p-61 can be a little tough the canopys don't look bad they just don't fit well. They was the only game in town in 1/48  till I think it's wall models came out with there 1/48 line  There pricy 100$ give or take.

I have the revell I cut off the location pins and put my own on the rescribed the panel lines. That's how far I got then the new ones came out. It's bin sitting since I joined the GB here.

Their original Bf-109E, their Spitfire IX, the A6M5 Zero, the F4F/FM-1, the original SB2C (not the Pro Modeler new tool release)... Those are all older kits with working landing gear, folding wings, etc. and are meant for the young modeler to play with. Part model, and part toy. Mind you they are fun nostalgia builds, or good for getting kids into the hobby with as easy starter kits. But there are better more recent kits of the same subject out there. I would probably add the F6F and F4U-4B as well. Maybe the SBD too, although it is still the only 1/48 SBD kit with an accurate raised rivet exterior like the real SBD. But correcting all the other gigs and bringing it up to snuff is a MAJOR project. Their TBF is marginally less so, and also is still the only early production TBF-1 kit in 1/48 out there. If you want a Midway or Guadalcanal/Eastern Solomons/Santa Cruz Avenger, you have to convert an Accurate Miniatures kit, or work with the Monogram kit.

Their old F4U was fun. It's cool that grandpa (my dad) built one in the early '70's and his grandson (my boy!) built one some 40 years later (last month).

Yup, I built that one with my dad as well some 40+ years ago. Good memories...

I wish they would put their 1/48 A-4 back out. Pops built that one way back when, and it's still a nice looking kit.

Lotta good stuff......................I recently purchased their 1/32 German  8 wheel armored car kit .........after looking over the kit, I'm sorta sorry I never picked up more of those Monogram 1/32 armor kits

when I got back into the  hobby I was shocked to see there was no more monogram armor. I grew up on ranch and there was a armor battle out there just about every day I build built everything monogram had a dozen times.  It was a odd scale

Mississippi......I think it is back out it sold as the older blue Angel kit and it also can be decaled as u.s. marines

MV, the A-4 was recently  re issued and is currently available. It has marking options for the Blue Angels, or John McCain's Scooter on USS Forrestal (from which he barely escaped during the catastrophic fire).

Spruce & Black Dog, they have been re issuing the armor slowly. Most recently were the Kfz 232, M4 Hedge Hog, M3 Lee, and M48. I would really love to see them re issue all the Panzer IV variants that they did with the Shep Paine flyers. And their M3 Grant....

The Sherman's when released were great. But they compromised on some details  by using the lower hull and suspension from the earlier M3 kits. Both the M4 and M4A1 are initial production types with direct vision on the hull, although the M4A1 has the later M34A1 full width mantelet on the main gun. Both need correction in the rear hull/ exhaust, and the tracks have the end connectors molded in the wrong spot. They are not up to speed compared to the Tasca or latest Dragon Shermans. But you can get 2 to 3 for the price of one of those. And if you like 1/32 and "fixer uppers" they can be fun. Monogram also did the M8 and M20 armored cars. The M8 has not been available for many many years.

I love these kits for a couple of reasons...1) they are relatively inexpensive. When I screw them up, I'm not out much. 2) the memories. That is about all I built as a kid.

I am becoming more and more aware, at a not insignificant cost, that it isn't the kit, but the builder. That is almost always the case. It isn't the material, but the skills of the builder/artist.

And, their customer service on replacement parts is just about second to none.

I have the original Pro Modeler issue 410 and is a real beauty and can be built OOB as is. Another decent kit that opens up superdetaling possibilities is the old TBD. Fermis did a thread a while back on this :http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/128955.aspx?PageIndex=1

As I remember when I did the 1/48 P38, it was a real dog and I wound up tossing it. Don't know about the 1/32 one. I have Three 1/48 Monogram P51Ds that show a partial engine, gun bay details and super crisp cockpit molded detail. They should make excellent builds.

I have been eyeing the 1/32 Tony on Ebay but they have been selling for $100+. I heard this is an excellent kit.
