Salvadorian Corsair

Just a little something I finished up for Stikpusher's Latin America Group Build a few weeks ago.

Here's Captain Cortez's Corsair from the El Salvador Air Force. This aircraft took part in the 1969 100 Hours War between El Salvador and Honduras. Also known as the Football War or Soccer War due to rioting that broke out in the 1970 FIFA World Cup between the two nations.

I used the 1/48th Tamiya kit built right-outta-da-box with aftermarket decals from Aztec.

Sorry, it was a little cloudy when I took the shots, probably I should go back and retake them on a more sunny day. Sad

Looks great! It's nice to see a Corsair in something other than Navy blue! I have one waiting next in line on the bench, and was wondering what I could do besides Navy blue- this gives me a good idea. Thanks, Gamera.

Funny you should say that Chuck, several times while painting her I found myself wondering: 'what the @#$@ SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE BLUE- WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?!'

Both El Salvador and Honduras operated blue, camo, and a few natural metal Corsairs. So there's a bunch of different stuff you can do there besides the usual blue.

Great job, Gamera! You mentioned natural metal Corsairs - can't say that I've ever seen a natural metal Corsair, other than the prototype Corsair. That's got my curiosity piqued - I might just have to build me a natural metal Corsair! Anyways, you did an outstanding job on your Corsair! Can't have too many Corsairs on the forums..........

DD: Now that I think about it though I'm thinking the NM Corsair was actually a white Corsair used by either the Salvadorian or Honduran acrobatic team- in any case a Corsair of a different colour!
