The ceiling hanger CAG is coming together
Posted by USMC6094 on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 11:53 AM

Thought that since I was more or less goofing off between A&P study sessions I would post some updates on the nostalgic kits I've been accumulating to build as celing hangers for my nephew.

First, the old Monogram SB2C Helldiver

The Esci F-8E

The Monogram A-7

And finally the Monogram Corsair

all are going to be OOB except for decals, since a few of them have sheets that are too far gone to use. I'm looking forward to a nice couple months walking down memory lane

Nice selection of kits there, they bring back some great memories. This is going to be really cool!

OK so all of those are very valuable (at least in quality) kits that many would treasure. You know, when the kids are in bed, you pour a glass of Scotch and sit down to look at something nice.

I'd at the least tell the nephew that they are something to be put on a shelf and taken care of.

My A&P studies are exactly what is hindering my hobby time.  I sit at the computer rolling through Prepware all weekend as my airbrush and paints burns cynical holes in the back of my grape and several kits in various stages of construction mock me from the side.

Looking forward to seeing the progress on your builds.

USMC6094 - YOU, sir, are THE ultimate uncle! That's a very nice thing that you're doing for your nephew. Will he be helping you build as well?

Cool kits! I remember my dad building all of those back in the day.

Thanks guys, as for them being collectable..........I have doubles of the ones I want to build to put on the shelf, like the Corsair and Helldiver, and newer versions of the others, Corsair II and Crusader.

@GMorrison, I plan on hanging them well out of his reach, he's already pretty much lost the others in tha back ground of his IPad he got for Christmas, and Hobbyboss makes the A-7s I've waited all my life for,lol

@deatilio, yeah I'm in the prep class two nights a week and the Airframes class five days a week(to keep the GI Bill money coming) and havent done anything but basic large part dry fitting on anything since January. Thankfully I'll be done with it all by June or July, I hope.

@Devil Dawg, he'd disagree with you on that sometimes, lol. I've started him on wooden models, you know the kind that are pretty simple and he can play with if he's careful. He has a real issue keeping focused on whats in front of him, unless its his acursed IPad.................. He'll progress eventually, but he doesnt have any real interest in plastic models yet.

the others I was talking about was the re-released AMT F9F-2 Panther, Testors F8F-3 Bearcat, and Testors F2H Banshee, I'll see about the others tonight, theres about four or five more I plan on doing as well, but outside the Marine Aviation genre'. Like the Monogram F-111A, Testors SR-71A, AMT A-10, and some others. Yeah they'll end up on his ceiling, but I'm using them for practice and regaining experience lost from the years I was out of the hobby.
