It was always a 2-seater, being built originally as the first F-15B.

As such (being an early-build), it had the "short" airbrake and this would need to be backdated if starting from an F-15E kit.

PS: The aircraft as depicted in the top pic also has thrust vectoring nozzles, only not the squared-off type. I believe these ones only translated in the vertical plane.

The "short" airbrake and nozzles can be seen here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/F-15-vector.jpg

Probably wouldn't be too hard to just cut them from sheet plastic and use a standard F-15E kit for the one in your picture.

Yeah im looking for a 1/48th or 72nd scale and by the looks of it I could almost just use f18 horizontal stabs

Well, after researching it a bit on-line, seems I was correct - only one of these was built, and was converted three times to demonstrate different technologies (one of these conversions involved it being converted to a two-seater), and, in the process, three different tail numbers were used on the same airframe. Cool stuff. Hope you get to build one of these kits, pws!

Seems to be two different airframes. The first picture is a two-seater with regular afterburning engines, and the link in Bish's posting shows a single-seater with thrust-vectoring nozzles on the engines. I always thought only one of these STOVL/MTD aircraft were built. Shows you what I know!
