Finished this for the FW group build. Figured I'd share here for those not following.

Kit: Hasegawa 1/32 FW 190 D-9

AM: Aires resin cockpit

Montex Paint Masks

The kit goes together perfectly with no issues. I wouldn't place it up there with the Tamiya Uber kits, but it's as close as you can get without being one.

Looking at the following two pictures I realize now I need to get some RLM 02 around the edges of the wheel wells where I got some overspray.

Now that's very nice. I lost track of what was going on in that GB. Did this kit come with those markings or are they AM.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

The boxing of the kit I used does come with markings for this aircraft, yes. However, the only decals I used from the kit were the slogan on the fuselage and the stencils. Everything else is paint. There actually was a mask for the slogan, but it was completely unusable.

I didn't use the decals for the stripes either. I painted the underside white first and then masked with Tamiya tape cut down to 1/8 inch.

The kit, and the masking set also has the wrong call out for the wingtops as well. It would have them be RLM 82/83 like the mottling, but they were apparently 74/75.

came out looking amazing. I'm not familiar with these markings I'm guessing it had alot to do with identification.

Great looking 190!  Love the use of masks instead of decals.

dflu:

Very nice work. I'm using my first set of Montex masks on this build. Did you have trouble with build up on the white crosses on the upper wings?  I thinned down MM enamels which meant they were translucent, and after enough effort to get nice coloration, build up city.

Rambo, these D-9's were slated for airfield protection for a 262 squadron, as the 262's were touchy on the throttle, and flameouts were common if the throttles were horsed. So US fighters would pounce on the aircraft either landing or taking off.  The bottoms were candy striped to keep jumpy AA gunners from shooting down the wrong team.

Good Modeling,

Yes, painted on markings are the way to go for sure. Just awesome.
