Academy 1/48 F-86F Sabre
Posted by oortiz10 on Sunday, June 1, 2014 6:23 PM

As a birthday/Father’s Day combo gift, I built up Academy’s 1/48 Sabre.  I cobbled together some decals to give it the same markings as the one that sits in Yank’s Air Museum in Chino, CA.  The build isn’t the same variant as the museum piece, but few will notice.  Besides, it’s the only Sabre I had.

The kit’s built OOB and painted in Alclad and MM enamels.  The ID stripes and turbine stripe are painted on.  The pitot was installed after the photos were taken, but the sway braces were left off of the underwing stores.  (I forgot to drill out the holes before I glued the wings together.)  I kept weathering to a minimum because the jet at the museum is spotless too.

Please enjoy the pics and feel free to post your comments.

Beautiful build there O! Is that how Chino has it marked? With the big "US Air Force" on the fuselage sides?

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Thanks for the kudos guys!  Much appreciated!

And stikpusher, yes, the museum bird has the US Air Force nice and big on its side.

OK, maybe not as big as mine does, but I have a (very) limited modeling budget and I made do with what I had.

Thanks for lookin'!

Nothing wrong with making do with what you have. Not all of us have the $$ to blow on everything for modeling that we see or need. If that was the case I would have enough kits and supplies to open my own hobby shop. Very nice build and even more kudos for "working with whatchya got".

Kick the tires and light the fires!

I can certainly understand making due with what you've got... That being said, that's a beautiful build!  Thanks for sharing, Raymond
