Hi guys: This is only my second plane build this year; I have not attempted a plane kit since I was in 5th grade...so this build was a bit intimidating to say the least. I remember how I got so frustrated when I had a kit all done back in the day, but then "trashed the canopy" with glue marks when I tried to install it. I guess this build came out ok, but I am the first to concede that I weathered the Alclad II polished aluminum finish way too much...this was my first effort with an oil wash, and I did not protect the underlying metal finish by letting Pledge dry sufficiently first. I lost some of the aluminum wing paint and had to fix the blemishes best I could with a touch up re-spray and/or a decal cover. This plane was one of four builds (three done, one to go) I have done as a tribute to an Iowa WWII veteran and close friend of mine who is now in his nineties. The other two I have done are posted in the diorama forum, a P-51D and a B-25 Mitchell. The remaining plane I have to build is a B-24 Liberator. All of these planes were the four planes the veteran worked on in the states or while stationed in England and later in Europe on D-Day. Each model has brought a big smile to his face, as well as a few tears, and has made me feel proud to be his friend and an American. I know my model is well below the quality of work you guys do, but I hope that through your comments and help I can take my aircraft modeling to the next level for me. Robert, I wish you hadn't written that there were errors, now I'll go nuts looking for them and haven't seen any yet. Nice job, your old friend is lucky that you're his friend. Please tell him another old vet say's THANKS for his service.

Hey Robert, looks like an experienced veteran war bird to me! She looks great, so no worries about the mistakes. Honestly, I'm with Steve, had you not mentioned them I'd never known. I'm the same way though. Kudos for building them for the WWII vet. I'm sure they mean more to him than we can ever know. My best fried is trying to locate a book his wife's uncle made of his B-25 so I can try and replicate it for his son. Same reasoning... Keep up the good work, Raymond
