2014 Gunfighter Skies Airshow - Mountain Home AFB
Posted by jelliott523 on Sunday, September 21, 2014 10:38 AM

Here is a link to some pictures I took yesterday at the Gunfighter Skies 2014 Airshow at Mountain Home AFB.  They were all taken with my cell phone, so hopefully they turned out okay.

Some pretty nice pictures.  That German Tornado is pretty far from home.  Any back story as to why it was there or in the area?

I was planning on attending this on Saturday, but hurt my back and didn't make it. The last one I went to at MHAFB was back in the late 90's. Thanks for taking those pics.

Jelliott,

I went there yesterday but didn't stay for the Tbirds. I have some other pics I'll put on tonight to add to yours.  I don't know how to do that whole slideshow thing though.

The Tornado is based in Arizona. The German Air Force has a unit based there and have for several years. They actually come up to Idaho on a fairly regular basis to train at the bombing range. Idaho also has a foreign unit stationed at Mt. Home, the Singapore Air Force has a squadron of F-15SG's based here.

@Brandon, sorry to hear about your back, hopefully its nothing serious.  The show was pretty good, lots of people and it did get a little warm right before the Tbirds took off.

@modelcrazy, how was the weather yesterday out there, it looked like it might be a little breezy and cool.  I was working yesterday and was communicating with the base hospital from time to time as part of our work agreement.  It sounded like the Tbird show was cut short yesterday.

Nice pics Model, I feel kind of bad that I didn't even go look at the B-1B, we came through the gate, looked at the B-52 for a few minutes and worked our way down to the other end.  Great pics of the underside and gear of the B-1!  What did you think of the all dark-grey paint job on the F-16?  I'd heard about it on some other forums, but hadn't got a chance to see it in person until the show.

It was the 15's that shocked me, I was really surprised with the color. They looked dull and boring. I was thinking as I was looking, wow building a 15 in that scheme wouldn't be too tough, just one color, dark bla grey with white wheel wells and interior.

yeah, pretty much.  If you do decide to build the 15, there is a picture of the front office that I took of the Bold Tigers 15 that I can send you.

Sounds good. I didn't want to stand in line to look at cockpits or interiors.  My wife was with me, and I didn't want to make her wait.

My wife and son were with me too, I'll have to see what pictures my wife took to see if I need to add some to my slideshow.  My son was all about looking inside whatever he could.  We even waited in the line to go through the KC-10, actually went faster than I expected.  All I can say is that it would have been sweet to have the job as a boom operator in the KC-10, compared to the KC-135 operator, the workstation in the -10 is a cushioned throne!

I went to that show, in 2010 I think.  Great time.

Did they fly the F15Es?  Those were the stars of the show.  Wow!

Yes, however they only flew at the start.  The real show I saw was the P39 and P51. I missed the Thunderbirds.

I was honestly a little disappointed by the F-15 flight by the Singapore Air Force, the last time they had the airshow there, the F-15's and A-10's did a joint attack mission with explosions simulated bomb runs.  This time they basically did two fly-overs and then landed.
