I've always had pretty good results with stretched sprue in 1/72 scale. It's easy to measure and fiddle into place, attaches neatly (and quickly) with white glue on a toothpick, and is surprisingly strong and knock-resistant. (Plus, with the white glue, if you do need a repair, it's neat and easy to redo.)
