I was in one of them on Armorama, I would be up for one here next year for sure.Your rules would depend on if you made it a" Out of box only", then Dragon or Eduard type kits would qualify, But if you wanted no AM at all then that would be a different story. That would kind of limit it a bit.If you wanted to build a Dragon or Eduard would you have to leave of the resin and metal parts ? Even Tamiya has a few PE pieces.

Count me in, I am sure I have something in the stash that I can build for this GB.

I usually try to use the kit decals if they are of good quality and have not gone bad. As an example, the Academy F-86 that I have has gorgeous kit decals but unfortunately, I have read that they are crap and eventually were replaced by Academy with Cartograph ones.

I love using electrical wires, electrical components, stretched sprue, foil, sheet plastic, and any gadget to enhance details over using aftermarket items. But I must admit that sometimes that resin part or photo edge fret is just too good to pass up!

Sure why not. I do all OOB anyway. I'm not good enough for PE yet anyway (super glue them to my tweezers).

I'm sure I can scratch a little extra. Don't know what I'll do yet, but have plenty to choose from.

Don't forget guys, I have a Boeing GB starting June 15 to commemorate the 99th anniversary of Boeing's Model 1. Save some room for desert.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Tex, I see where you're going with that, and you are kinda right. I think Junkie maybe on to something with the No After Market GB name.

I wanted to have a GB in the spirt of seeing what you the modeler were capable of with your own skills and materials, not what the CNC machine at Eduard is capable of, or the resin casts at True details is capable of, if that makes sense.

Although I will remain adamant about allowing AM decals. I have a bad habit of buying 30 year old kits 2nd hand, and the decals are usually toast haha

Gary

I see your point too which makes sense but I got ajd's too as OOB with no aftermarket goodies but ok to make your own extra thingies.

Under IPMS rules anything other than adding aftermarket decals and simple paper or masking tape belts will not be considered an OOB build. Again this is not an IPMS competition but just throwing out an example.

If I may make a suggestion to keep it simple, how about just an "OOB Group Build" using ONLY what's in the box or..........".No Aftermarket Group Build", only what you can manufacture out of plastic, wire and spare junk?

Food for thought...................Hmm

Gary, if its called the OOB/Scratch build GB I guess its covers both options.

aj, this is a nice idea for a GB, and as odd as it sounds, I do have a small number of kits that will fit. I can't promise anything as my bench is already pretty full for next year, but if I can squeeze one in I will do my best.

There are 4 GB's that will be starting on the same day already, I don't know what others think, but putting it off a couple of months might be a good idea.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3

Out of the box and scratch-building sounds contradictory to me.  I would think that OOB meant you only used what was actually "out of the box", and not adding anything via building it from scratch.   But that just me, your mileage (and interpretation) may vary.Big Smile

Sounds like a good theme. I try to keep builds like that as much as I can. You can count on me for this one and will probably go with a 1/48 Zvezda Bf-109F-2. This is a gorgeous kit with lots of details just OOB.

Been giving it some thought, and I fugured it would be fun to have a GB with out all the fancy after market add ons. Just good 'ol skill, with alittle wire and strip styrene, so to speak. Here are basic ground rules, although there is roon for variation.

1. Any scale, any subject.

2. NO AFTER MARKET PARTS!!!! That means no extra PE. No resin bits. No AM injection parts like wheels, props, ect.

3. Scratch building new/replacement parts is acceptable, though, and encouraged!

4. After market decals ARE allowed.

5. Start date Jan. 1st 2015, probabky running 8-9 months. But that is up for discussion.

Now a grey area I would like to discuss with participants are the very fancy kits, say like an Eduard Profipack, ProModeler and what not that have PE and bits out of the box.

Opinions? Interest? Lets hear it. Looking foward to seeing what all can be done!
