Revell 1/32 P-39 Airacobra, Lt. McDonough Aircraft
Posted by link head on Thursday, October 9, 2014 9:02 AM
I picked up this kit the other day with the expectation of modeling Lt. William McDonough's P-39K while at Nadzab, New Guinea in 1943. I have a connection with this island. My father was attached to the 5th Air Force with the 842 Aviation Engineers Battalion and was on this island building and repairing the runways at the same time. My issue is that the Zotz decal sheet, ZTZ 32016 is out of production. This is the sheet that has Air A Cutie and the gloved Donald Duck 23. I would greatly appreciate any help in locating this particular Zotz decal sheet. Thanks for any help!

I love the Airacobra.  It's a bird that, for one reason or another, that you just don't hear a lot about.  I wish I could help you out with you dilemma. Good luck, and I can't wait to see how it turns out.  Raymond

One option might be to make inkjet decals if someone responding has a set but wants to use them themselves and can scan them for you.  However, making light colored markings is much harder than dark colored markings, and most P-39s I am familiar with had light markings.

It is not impossible to make light colored decals, just more of a challenge.  You must print them on white decal paper.  To make it possible to cut out small markings you must use a background color corresponding to the color they will be used over, and color matching and calibrating your inkjet printer for accurate color reproduction is a challenge.

Thanks Raymond and Don.  I will probably have no other recourse but to try my hand at printing them myself.  I just did a genie for my father-in-law's Sherman "easy 8" that turned out pretty good.
