Academy 1/48 MiG 21 MF
Posted by Theuns on Friday, October 10, 2014 2:45 AM

I picked up the Academy 1/48 MiG 21 MF since I wanted to do something different.

The kit itself is not to bad, I needed to dress up the office with some sprue "pipes" on the rear bulkhead, added a throttle, lead foil seat straps and an O2 hose.

My modling budget really does not allow the option of allot of AM "bling" lige PE and resin seats so I have to use what the kit suppliesWhistling

Sorry for the poor quality pic.

I am a tad worried about the Academy decals though, it seems luck of the draw if they are good or really dodgy :-(

May have to get some decals for maybe the Egyptian or Sudanese AF.

I am sure you will be able to work your usual voodoo magic with this build as with your others T. Nice work on the office so far. If the kit decals dont work, at least there are plenty of AM decals for 21s out there.

Thanx Stik

The basic frame is ready for paint, I had to do a little work to blend the top avionics spine into the fin and rear cockpit decking, aswell as on the wingroots, but all OK now.
I also added the "lumps 'n bumps" /scoops to the rear airframe.
Front canopy seems to have a nice fit to it.

The tailplanes will be glued on after painting.

I have found a rather interesting Somali AF scheeme I want to try....

I might have to cut out masks for the Somali rondals and paint on as the blue of the USAF ones I have is to dark

In the meantime here is the latest.
The feathered edge is way to soft for scale, but I am trying to show a very udes /faded aerie. It looks wrong that there is so little green, but Somalia is mostly desert :)
I plan to do a heavy wash and post shading of the panels for a dirty look.

OK, so I am not totally happy with the painted on rondals, but my story is that they were overpainted in Somalia after delivery from some east block country
I also did allot of post shading and weathering with pastels to make it look used.
